Superbowl Prop Bets
by Predictem.com Staff
One of the most “fun” things to do when the Superbowl comes along (other than eat/drink until you wanna puke) is placing prop bets on events that happen during the game.
To further expand on this, a “prop bet” is a wager other than a point spread or total wager. Props can literally be anything from will the coin toss be heads or tails to who will score the first points of the game.
And it doesn’t end there. Not only can you bet on who will score the first points, you can wager on what positions will score first, will a score happen within the 1st 2 minutes of the game, will so and so throw for more than 300 yards etc. I think you probably get the point. Proposition wagers can literally be on anything.
I remember one year when online bookies were offering a wager on if the first commercial was going to be a beer commercial or “anything else”.
While some prop bets give you a 50/50 chance of winning, others are much more difficult BUT at the same time they look easy. These are wagers to beware of. ANYTHING in sports gambling that looks to be “too good to be true” PROBABLY is!!!!
Keep in mind that the people making these props are probably more knowledgable of what really will happen than you or I happen to be.
On the flip side of this, if it does look too good to be true, it may make sense to bet the opposite side of the wager and go against your initial gut feeling. Sounds crazy, but no joke, the ones that look too easy end up being nasty bankroll killers.
Other props that you may see at the sportsbooks include but are not limited to: odds to win the Superbowl MVP award, most rushing yards, most passing yards, most receiving yards, longest punt, field goal over/under 40 yards, sacks over/under 3.5, interceptions over/under 1.5 and we even saw one prop bet on how many types of food John Madden would mention during the game with the over/under being 2!
Sure, props can be crazy bets that have nothing to do with the statistics of the game. Check out some of these Super Bowl XLIII prop bets: how long will it take Jennifer Hudson to sing the National Anthem over/under 2 mins and 1 second, what will the Nielson ratings be obver under 42.5, who will win the coin toss, heads or tails, how many times will the announces refer to Ben Roethlisberger as “Big Ben” and the over under was 5, and so much more.
Anyhoo, once the props for this season’s SB come out we’ll make a page and list them here.
Enjoy the game Ya’ll.
