Werder Bremen (12-9-12) at VFL Wolfsburg (20-6-7) 9:30 AM ET Saturday May 23, 2009

There is only one match left in the Bundesliga and Wolfsburg only need to bag one point in this game to win the title. The German giants have played great all season and they only need a tie to unseat Bayern Munich as champions of the Bundesliga. However, Werder is a decent team and the winner of the Stuttgart vs. Bayern Munich match will snatch the title away if Wolfsburg falters at home tomorrow. As it stands now Wolfsburg has 66 points and both Bayern and Stuttgart both have 64 points.
Werder is currently in the 10th position in the domestic league and their season has been far from impressive. They lost their last game in the UEFA Cup Final on Wednesday night and their last chance to stay in Europe competition next season is a win in the final of the DFB Cup. Beating Wolfsburg at home tomorrow will be no easy task, as the home club has not lost in their last 5 matches on their pitch, while Werder has only 1 win in their last 5 away games, as well as 3 losses and 2 draws.

Wolfsburg Recent Form:

Wolfsburg 3 Borussia Dortmund 0

Werder Recent Form:
FC Koln 1 Werder 0
Werder 2 Hamburg 0

In this game Werder will have to contain a Wolfsburg offense that has scored the most goals in the Bundesliga this season (75).
Wolfsburg forwards Edin Dzeko and Grafite have combined for 51 goals this season and if each scores in this game they will become the most successful striker duo of all time in the German league.
Wolfsburg has a full squad for this match, as they have no significant injuries and they do not have any suspensions. Werder on the other hand has a squad full of players that are tired from their UEFA Cup loss in Istanbul and forward Per Mertesacker is Out for this match.
Since Werder has to win the DFB Cup final next week they may rest some of the better players. Werder may use this match to give chance to players who had not played that much and to refresh the squad before the cup final.
Werder played solid defense on the dynamic offense of Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Cup final and they will have to play like that again in this game to have any chance.
Werder G Tim Wiese has had an up and down season and he will have to have a solid game in the box for the visiting team in tomorrow’s match.
Werder forwards Claudio Pizarro (17 goals this season) and Mesut zil (12 assists this season) have to give the visitors some offense, but it remains to be seen if they will even play in this match.
Wolfsburg should not break out the Champaign yet, as even though Werder has their share of problems they are an unpredictable team and they did almost win the UEFA Cup final losing in Extra Time.
Even though Wolfsburg only needs one point in this game they will look to score and put this game away early. Werder may get a goal in this game, but I look for Wolfsbrg to win easily with a score around 3-1. It is also a good idea to lay a little cash on either Edin Dzeko or Grafite to find the back of the net.
