Roulette – The Odd Bet
by Jason Green of Predictem.com
On a Roulette wheel there are 36 numbers total, being 18 even numbers and 18 odds numbers that are either black or red. On the Roulette betting table there are inside bets that you can make and outside bets that you can make. The inside bets are betting on the numbers that correspond to the Roulette wheel. The outside bets are a series of boxes that are different bets that you can make.
One of the outside betting boxes is the odd bet. If you place your bet inside that box you are betting that when the wheel is spun that the ball will rest on one of the odd numbers in the wheel. If you make the bet in the odd box and the ball does land on an odd number in the wheel, you will win your bet and be paid out 1 to 1. Since there are 18 odd numbers and 18 even numbers people think that the odds of winning this bet are 50/50. That is wrong, as the casino has a small edge with the green zero or zeros. In European Roulette there is only one zero, as opposed to American Roulette, which has two zeros.
A GREAT PLACE TO PLAY REAL MONEY ROULETTE ON THE NET IS CLUB WORLD CASINO
The casino has to make money on games and the way they do so in Roulette is the green zeros. A good rule of thumb in any casino game is to try to find the best odds possible. In Roulette, that would be by playing the European version. Obviously, if you are playing at a land-based casino you have to be in European casino in order to play that version, but if you play Roulette online you can find the European version at many online casinos. In European Roulette there is a house edge of 2.7% and with American Roulette there is a house edge of 5.3%.
You can make the odd bet by itself or with a combination of other Roulette bets. Considering the odd bet is on the outside there are betting minimum amount and maximum amounts that should be posted at the casino or shown in an online casino. For example, if the minimum bet for the game is $10, then $10 is the minimum amount you have to bet if you want to bet odd. The $10 minimum is the minimum amount that you must make with every bet. Conversely, the maximum bet is the max amount you can bet. For example, if the maximum bet at the table is $500 then $500 is the max amount you can bet on the odd bet. However, with the table maximum you can spread that $500 around the table with various combination bets or a max amount of $500 on one bet, such as odd or even, but you cannot bet more than that amount.
