The Philadelphia Eagles own an eight-game winning streak in their rivalry with the New York Giants, heading into the 174th meeting between the teams Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands. But New York is actually 5-2 against the spread over the last seven meetings, keeping games close as underdogs. The Giants are getting three and a hook as home dogs for this game; who do we like for our free NFL pick?
NFL Betting Odds
Week 10 NFL betting odds opened the Eagles as three-point favorites over the Giants, with an over/under of 41. Early betting action then bumped Philly to -3.5 and goosed that total to 44.
Eagles vs. Giants Betting Preview
Philadelphia owns a modest two-game winning “streak,” after downing hapless Dallas two weeks ago 23-9. The Eagles then enjoyed last week off.
Philly, giving 10.5 points on the NFL betting line, spotted the Cowboys the first three points of the game two weeks ago and trailed 9-7 at the half. The Eagles then took the lead for good with a touchdown late in the third quarter, then iced the game and the cover with a defensive score with five minutes to go.
Philadelphia actually got out-gained by Dallas 265-222, out-rushed 133-119, lost time of possession by a 33:27 split and lost the turnover battle 4-2. And it’s very rare that an NFL team loses those four statistical categories and still wins the game and covers the spread.
The Eagles have now out-gained four of their eight opponents this season but out-rushed only two of eight foes.
And yet, at 3-4-1 overall Philadelphia leads the pathetic NFC East by a game and a half over second-place Washington.
More Week 10 Picks: MNF: MIN/CHI Against the Spread Pick
New York, meanwhile, after starting 0-5 this season, is 2-2 SU, 3-1 ATS over its last four games, after winning at Washington last week 23-20. The Giants, as three-point underdogs, scored the first 10 points of the game and led 20-3 at halftime. New York then allowed the Team to get within 23-20 with ten minutes to go but halted Washington’s last two possessions with interceptions to secure the much-needed victory.
The Giants got out-gained by Washington 402-350 but the vast majority of the yardage the New York defense allowed came while protecting that big halftime lead. The Giants also out-rushed Washington 166-37, dominated time of possession by a 36:24 split and won the turnover battle 5-0, creating a +13 points differential for New York.
The Giants have now out-gained just two of their nine opponents this season but they’ve also out-rushed each of their last four foes. Maybe that’s why they’re 3-1 ATS over that span.
Two weeks ago New York led Tampa Bay 17-15 through three quarters but lost 25-23. Three weeks ago the Giants led these Eagles 21-10 with six minutes left but lost 22-21. Just before that they beat Washington 20-19 and just before that they lost to Dallas 37-34. So New York’s last five games have been decided by a total of 10 points.
A few plays here and there and the Giants might have two or three more wins.
At 2-7 overall New York, unbelievably, is only two games out of first place in the NFC East.
Eagles-Giants Recent History
Philly owns an eight-game winning streak over New York but needed a late rally to beat the Giants three weeks ago 22-21. The Eagles trailed that game 21-10 with six minutes left but drove 78 and 71 yards to touchdowns on their final two possessions to steal the victory.
However, New York covered as a five-point dog.
Also, that game stayed under a total of 44.5, thanks to two failed Philadelphia two-point conversion attempts.

Free NFL Pick
These teams just played a one-point game three weeks ago. Also, seven of the last 10 meetings have been decided by five points or less, and another went to overtime. And perhaps New York can play with a little confidence now, with two wins over its last four games. This game could easily go either way, so we like the Giants plus the three and the hook.
