This Sunday in Buffalo, NY, we have an NFC AFC showdown between two teams headed in completely opposite directions. The Buffalo Bills, who currently sit at 5-2 and in second place in the AFC East behind the Patriots, will welcome the dumpster fire known as the Washington Redskins. Washington is 1-7 so far this season, which puts them dead last in the NFC East division. Buffalo has been one of the biggest surprises of 2019, and this Sunday, they are again picked to come out victorious. The line has the Bills as a 9 point favorite at home over Washington. Washington has not won a game since their narrow escape against the winless and tanking Dolphins. Buffalo is coming off of a loss, but to a Philadelphia team that is still considered a true NFC contender. Buffalo on paper SHOULD dominate this game against Washington, but let’s take a closer look at this matchup.
HOW THE PUBLIC IS BETTING THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS AND BUFFALO BILLS:
Like I mentioned prior, the Buffalo Bills are favored by 9 points at home over the Washington Redskins. As of early Wednesday morning, the betting public was just about split on this game. 52% likes Buffalo at home minus the 9 points while 48% thinks that the Redskins will find a way to keep it close. The public is primarily torn on this game because of quite a few factors: Weather, the Redskins QB situation, and the play of the Bills defense. I see a low scoring game. Hence, the 37 points posted total, and usually in these type games, although the favorite comes out on top, the games stay fairly competitive.

WHY THE BUFFALO BILLS WILL COVER THE SPREAD COME SUNDAY:
The main reason is just that Buffalo is a better team. A lot better. The Bills defense will cause major issues for the Redskins offense this Sunday. Buffalo brings in a defense that has a young yet talented defensive line and a defensive back unit that is becoming one of the best in the league.
The Washington offense has been a mess this season. The Redskins are scoring just 12 points per game behind a terrible passing game and a decent run game that gets shut down due to the lack of passing and offensive balance. This plays well into the hands of the Buffalo Bills come Sunday. The Bills are allowing just 17 points per contest, which puts them near the top 5 in all of the NFL in that area while the Redskins are giving up nearly 25 a game which, obviously, has them ranked near the bottom of the league.. It is uncertain who will start quarterback for the Redskins come Sunday, but to be honest, it does not matter. Case Keenum has been the better option so far, but his status is uncertain due to a concussion he suffered early in last week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. If Keenum cannot go, then the Redskins will look to rookie Dwayne Haskins. Haskins came into Washington with lots of hype, talk, and hope, but his very young NFL career has not gotten off to a good start. Haskins so far in his rookie campaign has thrown just 22 passes, and in those 22 attempts, four of them have been intercepted. Haskins has yet to throw a touchdown in his career, but hell, the Washington Redskins as a team, have only thrown nine touchdowns…and ran for two others. The problems with this team can not be blamed on one player or one position group..it is just a bad all-round team. The Washington defense at times does show promise, and I believe if they had a more competent offense that could take more time off the clock giving the defense more rest, then the defense would have better production…but again, that’s a big IF.
With that said, I like Buffalo a lot in this game. The nine-point spread is a tad worrisome, but when the game ends, I think Buffalo will be too much for the Redskins, and when it is all said and done, the Bills cover.

HOW THE WASHINGTON AND BUFFALO GAME WILL PLAY OUT ON SUNDAY:
I like the total points right where they are at 37. This game will be a run the ball, play defense, and “grind it out” type of game. The Redskins will attempt to get the run game going with Adrian Peterson, who has looked pretty decent considering his age. However, the before-mentioned Buffalo defensive front will cause some issues for the Redskins, and eventually, they will be forced to rely on the play of quarterback….who right now is looking will be Haskins. I see a game that looks a lot closer on the scoreboard than it really is. I see a halftime score of 9-3 Buffalo, but eventually, in the second half, the Bills pull away and win the game something like 23-10 over Washington.
Bob’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: Take the Buffalo Bills minus the nine points at home over the Washington Redskins.
