One of the less intriguing match-ups in week 16 will feature a showdown between the Washington Commanders and New York Jets, who will both meet at MetLife Stadium. The reason I say less intriguing is because it is among the few match-ups this week where both teams’ playoff chances have already been eliminated. The Jets were previously hoping to make a run at the playoffs, and hopes were high, especially with rumors lingering of an in-season return from QB Aaron Rodgers, who went down with an apparent season-ending Achilles injury.
However, the Jets dropped their sixth loss in the last seven games in last week’s embarrassing 30-0 shutout to the Miami Dolphins. As a result, New York has been completely eliminated from the playoff picture. Ultimately, that situation led QB Aaron Rodgers to announce earlier this week that he would not be returning to action this season. Therefore, the enthusiasm around the Jets’ organization has been sunset, which leads to a tricky scenario on Sunday in a home stand against the Washington Commanders. They are mere 3-point betting favorites, marking just the 3rd time all season the Jets have been the outright betting favorite.

Washington Commanders vs. New York Jets Betting Analysis
Without Rodgers, the Jets’ offensive struggles show no end in sight. QB Zach Wilson has struggled tremendously this season and was recently knocked out of last week’s game against Miami with a concussion. All early signs point to Wilson missing this weekend’s match-up, which means New York will turn to QB Trevor Siemian for the 2nd time in the last three weeks. In the last two games resulting in a start and relief effort for Wilson, Siemian has hit just 19 of 39 passing for a mere 176 yards with two interceptions. If there is any good news, Washington has struggled mightily against the pass this year, giving up an NFL-worst 264 yards per game through the air. So, in some ways, this may be an estimate of who is worse between the Jets QB situation or the Washington pass defense?
Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, the Commanders’ passing attack will draw one of their tougher match-ups of the season against a talented Jets’ defense. With RB Brian Robinson’s status looking gloomy for the 2nd straight week with a hamstring injury, this may be another game where QB Sam Howell is asked to sling it nearly every down. Howell has remarkably attempted at least 40 passes in six of the last eight games. While consistency and turnovers will be very important in this match-up against the Jets’ defense, I could also see angles where the Commanders’ passing attack is able to produce some success if the Jets’ defense cannot get off the field due to minimal production on the opposite side of the football. Needless to say, I believe ball control and turnovers will be extremely important toward deciding the winner of this game.

Washington Commanders vs. New York Jets Betting Prediction
This game features two of the worst betting teams in the NFL, who have combined to go 3-10-1 over their last 14 games. Needless to say, I would be lying to imply that I have high confidence in either team. However, I do like the situational advantages for the Commanders this week. I also believe they will be the team most likely to win the turnover battle. Therefore, I will take the underdog in Washington that I believe has the higher percentage chance to win outright!
