Sunday at 1:00pm, the the Tennessee Titans will travel to Philly to take on the Eagles in AFC/NFC showdown. Tennessee comes into this game at 2-8 and third place in the AFC South, while the Eagles sit atop the NFC East at 7-3. Both teams are entering their third game with new starting QBs. The Eagles will have Mark Sanchez under center, while the Titans look to rookie, Zach Mettenberger to get them back on the winning track.

Many people are high on the Eagles, even with Sanchez as the starter. The line opens with Philadelphia as an 11 point home favorite over Tennessee. The total points are set at 49. Not only have the Eagles had the better overall straight up record this season, but they are also more successful against the spread at 6-4. Double digit spreads in the NFL are always tricky, so lets see which play is the best one this Sunday.

When quarterback, Nick Foles, broke his collarbone, many thought that the Eagles offense would suffer. Not only has the Eagles offense continued to have success, Mark Sanchez is actually looking like a pretty solid quarterback. With the exception of a huge loss to the Packers, hte Eagles have not slowed up at all. The Packers game can be excused, because in the last few weeks, Green Bay is blowing everyone out. Like I stated earlier, double digit spreads in the NFL are tricky. If the Eagles have any desire to win this game by two scores, the offense will need to be firing on all cylinders. Currently, the Philly passing game is ranked 4th in the NFL, of course much of this was due to the play of Nick Foles, but Sanchez himself has already thrown for 880 yards and six touchdowns in just a little over two full games played. If Philly can protect the ball and not give the Titans easy scores, I believe they will win this game with ease.

The Titans may have just two wins on the season, but they have played some pretty tough games and came up just short. Just this past week, they had the Pittsburgh Steelers on the ropes only to lose late by a 27-24 score. Two other games for the Titans this season have been decided by fewer than four points. They are just a few plays away from being in a much better spot overall. Zach Mettenberger has improved each week as starter, and I believe that he could be the future of this team if he continues to get better and better. Through three games as a starter, Mettenberger has passed for 758 yards and five touchdowns. The one knock on him however, is that he has thrown four picks as well. Once Mettenberger learns to protect the ball better, I believe he will have tghe ability to lead this team to many wins. The key for Mettenberger and the Titans at Philly is exactly what I just said…protect the ball. The Eagles defense can give up some points. Philly is ranked 28th in passing defense, and 20th in run defense. If Tennessee can make this game a shootout, I like their chances to cover.

Double digit spreads like I have said a couple of times already are tough. The NFL is very unpredictable from week to week. I like this Philadelphia team a lot, especially the offense, but I just feel like at some points Mark Sanchez is going to go through some rough patches. I am not saying he is a bad QB, but I do not foresee the Eagles moving along with no speed bumps along the way. In most cases in the NFL, I will take the underdog when the line is 10+, and that is exactly what I am doing here today. Tennessee may not come into Lincoln Financial and get a win, but I do like them to keep the game somewhat competitive.
