TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS AND TENNESSEE TITANS MATCHUP:

This Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will travel to take on the Tennessee Titans. Both teams come in with a losing record, yet Tennessee can get themselves back to .500 with a win this Sunday. Both sides are on the outside looking in at the playoff picture, and both teams are a huge longshot to play in January, but neither is mathematically out, and a win this Sunday can put one of the two on the right track. Tampa Bay will hope their QB Jameis Winston has one of his good games while the Titans appear to be done with Marcus Mariota as they will start former Miami Dolphins quarterback, Ryan Tannehill. This game is not a game I would bet the house on, but I do have an idea of what I think will take place and who I think gets the cover come Sunday.

Against the spread this year the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 2-4 while the Titans are 2-4-1. The spread has the Tennessee Titans as a 2.5 home favorite over the Bucs while the total points are offered at 45.5 combined

HOW THE PUBLIC IS BETTING TAMPA BAY AND TENNESSEE:

As of Wednesday morning, the betting public liked Tampa Bay on the road plus the points. 55% think the Buccaneers get the cover while just 45% like Tennessee at home giving up points. The line appears to be exactly where it will stay. There has not been much movement since opening. As for my pick…I like the Titans at home to cover against the Buccaneers.

WHY THE TENNESSEE TITANS WILL COVER THE SPREAD ON SUNDAY:

This is a game that I can absolutely see going either way. Both teams have had “questionable play” at the quarterback position. You never know what you’ll get with Jameis Winston for the Buccaneers, and the Titans appear to have pulled the plug on Marcus Mariota. This Sunday, though, I like the Titans at home. Again, neither team really makes me confident, but I just have more faith in Tennessee. The main reason I like the Titans this week is due to the defense. Yes, we know just how bad the Titans offense is, but their scoring defense is ranked as one of the best in the NFL. The Titans allow only 16 points a game, and their defense should and probably will give the Tampa offense problems. The Tampa Bay offense statistically does pretty well. They average 28.8 points a game; however, they have yet to face a defense like this. And with that said, the Tampa defense has been allowing almost 31 a game. I am telling you, this is not my favorite game to bet this weekend, but I do know that Tennessee should be the play. Whenever you have two teams that are struggling, you ALWAYS have to go with the team that plays defense. With the move at the QB position by Tennessee, you also have to throw out offensive numbers. With Ryan Tannehill in charge, the offense should be in better hands. The key this Sunday is the play of the Tennessee offensive line. If the OLine can give Derrick Henry and the running game some lanes, then that will take the pressure off the passing game. I know it is crazy to think that Tennessee can get the offense going, but I do not need a 30 point performance. I think the Titans defense will keep Winston and the Tampa offense in check….all Tennessee needs is a 20-23 point performance to get the job done on Sunday.

HOW THE TAMPA BAY AND TENNESSEE GAME WILL PLAY OUT COME SUNDAY:

I feel this game on Sunday will be very sloppy and low scoring. I have a hunch we will see both teams turn the ball over on more than one occasion, but when its all said and done, Tennessee will do just enough of a better job to escape with a 20-14 win over the Buccaneers. The game will be close throughout, but in the final moments, Tennessee will finish the job beating Tampa and covering the 2.5. Again, when you have two bad teams, always and I mean always take the team with the better defense….and Tennessee DOES have a good defense.

Bob’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: Take the Tennessee Titans minus the points at home against Tampa Bay and also make a smaller play on the Under 45.5 total points.
