Are you surprised to see that the New York Giants are
the winless team in this matchup? The defending Super Bowl champs played
a decent game in the 2012 Kickoff game against the division rival Dallas
Cowboys, but the latter team prevailed in most matchups and won the game
24-17.
On the other hand, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers showed up
in a big way in their match against the Carolina Panthers. Under first-year
coach Greg Schiano, the Bucs put up ten points in the first quarter and
never looked back. The early lead allowed them to play safe (only 16 of
Josh Freemans 138 passing yards came in the second half), which allowed
rookie Doug Martin to strut his stuffrushing for 95 yards in 24 attempts.
Theyre definitely a different team than 2011, but then again they werent
exactly electric either as Panthers lackluster performance helped make
them look a little better than they actually were.
The Bucs, who will be headed north in Week 2, seem to be on the right track and putting the right pieces in place, but expect a hungry Giants team to show up on Sunday. You can take or leave their defense, which is spotty and oftentimes appears wretched, but expect the Giants offense to win this game.
With Eli Manning at the helm, the Giants ranked eighth overall in the NFL last year, including the fifth-best passing attack. Granted, their rushing game was ranked dead last in the NFL last year, but the Bucs rushing defense was also ranked 32nd. With that said, if Ahmad Bradshaw can repeat his Week 1 statsrushing 17 times for 78 yards and a touchdownand Manning throws for 30+ times in the game, well, the Giants will prove too much for the Bucs defense, who allowed Cam Newton to throw for 303 yards in the opener.

Whats more, Giants WR Victor Cruz, who despite having six receptions for 58 yards, will be coming in with a chip on his should looking to forget his three dropped passes and two penalties against Dallas, while rookie running back David Wilson, who only carried two times for four yards and a fumble, will seek redemption, provided head coach Tom Coughlin lets him in the game.
The Bucs are no doubt riding high from their well-deserved win, but Manning and company are the better team and will bring them back down with a healthy dose of reality; after all, this is Super Bowl champs versus a team in rebuilding mode, nuf said.
Vesper Abadons Pick to Cover the Point Spread: I like what the Bucs are doing in Tampa Bay and it appears that Schiano and Martin may make them a contender much faster than expected; however, the Giants are out to avenge their opening-day loss and remind everyone just why theyre the defending Super Bowl champs. The Giants should have no problem winning by more than 7.5, but the over/under is a little trickier. My gut says the Bucs will put up fewer points than they did in Week 1, while the Giants will put up more. Itll be close, but I think the under is the better bet.
