A Little Love for the Brotherly Shove

A Super Bowl Game Pick and Prop Prediction
Honey, I’m home.
It’s been about three weeks since my last article and picks.
Why?
Long story semi-short:
I had some pain in my throat and shoulder. Saw a lump. Went to see my GP at St Jude’s.
He took one look at the lump and said, “You have an internal infection; if it bursts, it could be life-threatening. You’re going downstairs to the emergency room, NOW!”
Two surgeries and 15 days later, I’m STILL in St Jude’s. Getting better, hopefully released in three days.
Here’s how you know you’re a sports bettor. Coming back to consciousness after surgery I kept having this nagging thought, “Bet the Lakers game Under tonight.”
When I woke up there was a nurse sitting next to me reminding me to breathe. I asked her if I said anything strange while she’s been sitting with me and she said, “Yeah, you keep mumbling something about the Lakers.”
I’m no fool. I know how to read a sign from God. When I got back to my room, I grabbed my cell phone. Do I call family and friends to let them know I’m okay after the operation? No.
I logged in to one of my accounts to get my bet on the Lakers Under.
I look at the schedule, and …
The Lakers aren’t playing tonight!
So much for a sign from God.
Later that evening I’m telling a friend of mine the story and he says, “The Lakers ARE playing tonight. I’m watching the game, it’s at halftime.”
I was so high on morphine and other post-surgery drugs that I didn’t read the schedule correctly when I checked. I hung up with my friend and immediately bet the game under. I didn’t check the score at halftime, and I didn’t check the opponent. I didn’t care what the line was; I bet the under and got 223.
The game landed on 219.
Turns out it WAS a sign from God after all.
And here’s how you know you’re really a sports bettor: though I was grateful for the win I couldn’t help thinking, “I should have bet more!”
And now on to my pick for the Super Bowl. So far I have one bet on a side, one bet on a prop.
For my prop, I took the shortest TD of the game—under 1′ yards. I got it at -152, but I don’t have the energy to shop around. You could probably get a better price if you have multiple accounts.
In the championship round there were four TDs of under 1′, one by Patrick Mahomes and one tush push by the Eagles. I think we’ll see at least one brotherly shove in the big game so that’s my prop bet.
As for a side, I’m taking KC -1.
I have only one concern with the Chiefs, they haven’t been blowing anyone out this year. They keep winning close games. Sooner or later, that comes back to bite you on the ass, and you lose a close one. But that’s it, that’s my only concern.
Andy Reid with extra prep time to come up with a game plan for the offense? The guy’s a stone-cold assassin.
On the defensive side of the ball, Spags will devise a game plan that focuses on and tries to limit Barkley, putting the game on ‘s shoulders. And that’s the big difference in this contest. Mahomes is the complete package.
Hurts is not.
The Chiefs won’t be able to take Barkley out of the game, but if they can limit him and put Hurts in a position to have to win for the Eagles, I think he’ll fall short.
With KC, we’re witnessing a dynasty, whether they win or lose this game. And yet, it seems they’re unappreciated by many. I can’t believe the amount of hate I’m seeing over the last two weeks for Patrick Mahomes. I saw people having a conversation, arguing about whether he should be in the conversation for greatest QB of all time. They’re literally having the conversation about it and arguing whether he should be in the conversation that they’re having. Doesn’t make sense to me.
If fans are unhappy about calls made by the refs, then hate on the refs, not Mahomes.
I’ll be back with a full accounting of my NFL season. I’ll need a little more recovery time before I can regularly contribute more articles and picks. Right now, I have no use of my right arm, so I can’t type, and I can’t dictate articles as I usually do because of my throat. But I’ll be back soon with NBA and college picks. The UFL is around the corner and the WNBA and CFL aren’t too far off. I’ll be here at PredictEm with my thoughts, analysis and picks on all of them.
Enjoy the game.
