The Seattle Seahawks will travel to Levis Stadium to take on the San Francisco 49ers in Week 12. Seattle is coming off a hard fought Monday night loss to Atlanta where there furious last minute rally came up short by about a yard when kicker Blair Walsh came up just short on a 51 yard field goal attempt as time expired that would have put the game into overtime. The loss pushed Seattle out of a playoff spot for the time being as they trail the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC West by 1 game. Seattle has lost 2 of their last 3 games and will try to right the ship against the struggling 49ers. San Francisco had a bye in week 11 after getting their first win of the year in week 10 against the New York Giants. The 49ers started the season with a 9 game losing streak.
Seattle has had a tough time protecting QB Russell Wilson but his great scrambling ability keeps him from a lot of sacks. In the Monday night game against Atlanta, Wilson scrambled 7 times for 86 yards and a touchdown. On the season, Wilson has been the leading rusher on the team as the Seahawks have struggled to find good healthy options running the ball and the offensive line has also struggled blocking Wilsons favorite receivers are TE Jimmy Graham and WR Doug Baldwin. Graham has been especially good the last 3 weeks with 18 catches and 3 touchdowns. Baldwin leads the team with 56 receptions for 673 yards.
The Niners have struggled at the QB spot but it seemed as though those days may be gone when they traded for QB Jimmy Garropolo from the New England Patriots; however, Garropolo has not yet seen game action for San Francisco. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan has not yet announced who the starting QB will be in this game but it is expected that Garropolo will be getting into a game sooner or later. Current QB C.J. Beathard had a good game in the win against the New York Giants but that was preceded by 3 dreadful performances before that where they scored a total of 30 points in 3 games. Of course the QB isnt the only problem for the 49ers as they lack production from all areas of the skill positions. The passing game is what has really held San Francisco back as they are averaging 5.7 yards per pass attempt against teams that average giving up 6.6 yards per attempt.
The Seahawks are known for a tough defense but the dreaded Legion of Doom defense has been beset with a multitude of injuries as both Kam Chancellor and Richard Sherman have been lost for the season. Despite the injuries the defense has still held opponents under an average of 20 points per game but the losses are seeming to take a toll as the Seahawks had a hard time stopping the Falcons on Monday night. This matchup should be much better for the Seahawks with the QB struggles that the 49ers have been having.
The San Francisco defense has been giving up an average of 26 points per game. The main culprit for San Francisco has been not being able to stop the opponents run game. The Seattle offense does not have a viable running threat other than the QB so this should play to San Franciscos advantage.
Jerbeeks Pick to Cover the Point Spread: The Seahawk defense always seems to rise up when they have their backs against the wall and need a win so they should be able to dominate this game and hold the 49ers with the uncertainty at QB. The Seahawk offense will probably also struggle with the running game so I dont see a lot of points being scored in this game. I think the Seahawks will do just enough to win and I predict a Seattle victory byt a score of 17-13. My recommendation is to play the under the total of 42.5 on this game.
