Welcome to San Francisco Seahawk fans! Yes, the Seattle Seahawk fans are arguably the best traveling group of fans in the NFL this season and for a good reasontheir team is the best in the NFC West and the entire NFL. The Seahawks will travel to Candlestick Park this weekend to take on their conference rival the 49ers. Back in September the 49ers were trounced by the Hawks at CenturyLink Field 29-3 in a game where the Seahawks dominated on defense. In past seasons this matchup has been a great contest but this year favors Seattle in just about every category save for they are on the road as 2.5 point dogs. The 49ers will look to avenge the beating they took in the fall but it will not be an easy task. Seattle comes into this game with the No. 1 ranked defense in the NFL and their offense has been averaging nearly 30 points a game in the last three weeks.
Offensively, the Hawks are still without Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice but does it really matter? The Seattle receiving crew has been stellar with Doug Baldwin leading the way with 40 receptions for over 600 yards and 4 TDs while powerhouse RB Marshawn Lynch is approaching a 1000 yards rushing on the season (224 carries, 970 yards, 9 TDs). Then there is Seattle QB Russell Wilson who is now making a case for this years NFL MVP. Wilson is a natural leader and he stepped up even more during primetime last Monday night in the Hawks win over the New Orleans Saints 34-7. Wilson threw for over 300 yards and 3 TDs to bring his season total passing yards to over 2600 and 22TDs. He is also tied with Ben Roethlisberger as the only QB to have 22 wins in his first two seasons which he will likely surpass with four games to go in the regular season. The Seattle offense is firing on all cylinders!
The 49ers have won two games in a row by beating the Redskins and the Rams. However, the Niners are not the same team they were last season as they have struggled on both sides of the pigskin. Niners QB Colin Kaepernick has struggled on and off all season with his decision making and timing which does not serve well with the No. 1 defense coming to town. The Niners will have to play flawless in order to move the ball against the Seahawks both on the ground and through the air. San Francisco will have a tough time getting the ball into the red zone against this Seattle D.
The Seahawks edge out the Niners in every category but this is still a conference rivalry that has been solid if you throw out the last two meetings as Seattle has buried the Niners. If Kaepernick can play at the level Russell Wilson has been playing then this game just might be a good one to watch but Wilson has elevate his game and his team to another level and I dont see the Niners being able to keep up with the Hawks. Seattle simply has too many playmakers on both sides of the ball.
The Hawks are early dogs but thats just a respect thing from the books and an attempt to balance out the bets. I like the Seahawks to win plus the points. The Seahawks have clinched a playoff spot and undoubtedly will have home field advantage throughout which sets them up for a deep playoff run because they dont lose at home. Take Seattle and enjoy the ride to the playoffs and the cashiers window.
