Wow, if youre a Houston fan you might still be picking yourself up from
the ground after last weeks debacle at home to the NFC West leading Seattle
Seahawks. A lot of gamblers were certain it would be Seattles
first loss of the season to a tough Texan squad in Houston; and they were
nearly right! However, just like in the game of baseball when things are
going your way the Gods have a way of pouring it on just enough to get a
team over the edge. The football Gods were out and about on behalf of the
Seahawks on Sunday when they forced overtime against the Texans and then
sealed the deal with a FG. The Seattle defense rose to the call in the second
half of the game by shutting out Houston after they led 20-3 at the half.
All the Hawks did was score 23 unanswered points to remain undefeated at
4-0 and are now sitting atop the NFC West Divisionand if the Hawks keep
it rolling they will secure home field advantage in Seattle which is a place
NFL teams absolutely detest. It is still early in the season but Ill say
it nowif Seattle gets home field advantage theyre as good as penciled
in for a Super Bowl appearance.
However, the Seahawks certainly have their challenge in a very solid opponent this upcoming weekend in Indianapolis where upstart QB Andrew Luck has settled nicely into is role behind center for the Indianapolis Colts. Luck has 5 TDs and over 900 yards passing so far through the first 4 games and he continues to operate the offense better each game he plays. Lucks favorite target thus far has been WR Reggie Wayne who has pulled in 22 receptions already in 4 games. It should be a great matchup of young QBs who are both playing extremely well. Lucks counterpart, Seattles Russell Wilson, has tossed 6 TDs and looks to keep the Colts defense guessing by rolling out of the pocket which opens up the running threat as well as the deep strike to either Hawks receivers Baldwin, Tate or Rice. The running game should favor the Seahawks as Marshawn Lynch has rushed for over 300 yards and 3 TDs then add the mobile threat of QB Wilson and all is fair game for the runnin!
Defensively, Seattle has a slight edge especially in their secondary where young studs like Cam Chancellor and Richard Sherman roam like hungry wolves on a grey winters afternoon. The Seattle D will likely be busy as the Colts tend to throw the pigskin a lotLuck has attempted 128 passes to Wilsons 96. If you look on paper these two teams are really closely matched up. Indianapolis actually has the edge in every offensive category but Seattle is not far behind as is the same for defense; the Hawks are a bit better and in my opinion, they will be a lot harder to break through this week after a scare in Houston. When a team gets challenged like the Hawks did by the Texans they do not easily forget how close they were to earning their first loss. I see Seattle ramping up the D big-time and putting a ton of pressure on Mr. Luck. Luck is good but Seattles D is better! I like the Hawks to pick, stick, and hit Luck all afternoon in Indy! Seattles offensive line has been banged up and they went without 3 of their starters in Houston including C Max Unger, LT Russell Okung, and RT Breno Giacomini. The Hawks survived but not before giving up 5 sacks to Houstons defense. Unger might be back for the Colts game but Okung is out at least 5 more weeks while Giacomini is expected to make a quick recovery from knee surgery.
I like Seattle to pull out another tough road win with more offense this week and the defense shuts it down earlier than they did in Houston. Reggie Wayne vs. Seattle secondary will be interesting but the Hawks keep Wayne in check outside of a few playsWayne will get some grabs but not anything like hes been used too this season.
