Week 2 of the NFL season brings us a fantastic matchup. The Eagles showed us a mind-numbing offensive pace which fits QB Mike Vick perfectly. Vick is a Reaction playerand finally—I mean FINALLY!!!!!—Mike Vick has found a Coach in Chip Kelly who can use Vicks amazing skills to the teams advantage. On the opposite side of the ball, the Chargers and Philip Rivers collapsed like a Latin American dictatorship in the 4th quarter on Monday night. Predictably, when all the cash was on the line, Rivers reverted to unknown football throwing at players shoes, square dancing in the pocket, and handing the game over to a much more mentally tough Texans team. Lets look at who has a good shot at covering this weekend!
It is hard to win on the road in the NFL and doubly hard to win on the road against a good team with strong momentum. Philadelphia did just exactly that causing Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan to dump his choppers more than once on the sidelines (Yeah; those are real teethsure!). Robert Griffin III (I refuse to say RG3!) was so awestruck that he lost his whole throwing motion in Phillys win last week! Griffin looked like he was throwing pasties on his best girl instead of slinging the rock as he did last year. Vick was completely and FINALLY his self playing better football than he did with the Falcons. If the Eagles are in shape you might be looking at a Super Bowl winner; barring major injuries. From sheer viewing pleasure, Chip Kellys up-tempo offense is now a new and haunting specter hanging over any Eagle opponent. You better not bring 30+ year old, out of shape, check cashers to pressure this offense! The Eagle defense did just enough to get the winand thats good enough when Vick is allowed to be Vick. Andy Reid has been the problem with the Eagles all the way through Donovan McNabb. Its just like when Cincy got rid of Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson, and clown Extraordinaire Terrell It is all in the Superficial Owens. Cincy takes out the trash and wins again. Lets take a look at the Chargers and see if we can find some positives!
The Chargers scored more points than the Texans last week—for 3+ quarters—thats a sincere positive! I love the white, minimalist, uniform look the Chargers have this year; thats another positive!! To be truthful; the Chargers are a Loser organization and it starts on the Top. The Chargers havent really won anything since they turned their back on Drew Brees after the 2005 season in favor of NC State Great Philip Rivers. With Ladainian Tomlinson in the backfield with Rivers, the Chargers were 46-18. With just Rivers in the backfield (no Tomlinson) the Chargers are under .500! Clearly this magical QB called Rivers runs directly through a little town called Below Average. Rivers is very, very good when he has exceptional talent around him. HA! Rivers is a Commoner QB posing as an effective Closer! When Rivers is behind or tied in a game, Phil has one of the worst passing ratings in the NFL. His best target, Antonio Gates, was a Beast for years with the Chargers. Now, Gates is little more than an annoyance for opposing teams defenses. Rushing the ball for the Chargers has become a pretty good joke around the NFL. Ryan Mathews lead the 2012 Chargers in rushing and is the leading rusher in 2013. If Ryan Mathews is your leading rusher it is time to find a better O-Line or find a better Running Back! The Chargers folded in the 4th quarter last week giving up seventeen 4th quarter points to the Texans. Why? Because theyre the Chargers! The same franchise that chose Philip Rivers over Drew Brees and the same exact franchise that allowed Norv Turner to be in-charge of anything other than Valet Parking. Who will win this weekend between these 2 teams? Yep, you guessed it!!
Tim’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: Eagles -7.5
