Even though the Philadelphia Eagles and the New
York Giants have been lumped together in the misery that is the
disappointing NFC East, make no mistake that Sundays game between the two
division rivals at MetLife Stadium will be just as intense as previous games.
This time both the Eagles and Giants are desperate, wounded animals looking for anything to try and turn their desperate season around quickly.
Philly continues to struggle in their adjustment to new coach Chip Kellys new full-throttle approach, but you can hardly blame them for losing last week to the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning, 52-20. The Eagles offense is still making too many mistakes to contend with the Broncos right now, but with another road game in back-to-back weeks against the rival G-men, the Eagles and Kelly dont have much time to work out the kinks.
But at least the fans in Philly arent totally blown away with disappointment like the folks in New York, who have been blindsided by the Giants 0-4 start including a tipping-point, 31-7, loss on the road at Kansas City last weekend. Eli Manning and head coach Tom Coughlin have both been here before, but this time the Giants just might not be good enough anymore, and a date with the new-look , new-school Eagles could either be the final straw or another week on life support.
Oddsmakers opened the NFC East showdown with the Giants as slim 2-point favorites at home in MetLife. With most of the early money on the Eagles (or fading the G-men) , the point spread has dropped to New York minus -1 or -1.5 at a few of the offshore sportsbooks on the Web.
The over/under total opened at 53 at has moved all over the place, depending on where you wager and where theyve moved the total. With most of the offshore sportsbooks still listing 53 or 53.5 as the total, the book managers in Las Vegas have gone up even higher with 54 or 54.5 up on their boards currently.
The Eagles offense is still off a beat from when it was in prime form in the opening half of the season against Washington, but theyre close. The offensive line is still a little suspect at times (3 more sacks), but Vick and LeSean McCoy should be able to hit a few seams against a Giants defense that is giving up 122 yards on the ground per game (28th in NFL) and is ranked 32nd in points allowed with 36.5 per game.

New York had a tough time on offense last year when they struggled to run the ball, and this year they not only struggle to run it (57.8 ypg 30th) but the guy they pegged to do the running David Wilson is having a hard time holding on to it. Manning is forcing because hes getting very little help its all a bad combination that the Giants will need to fix quickly before they face an Eagles defense thats ranked last in yards allowed (446.8) and has already played half a seasons worth of snaps and minutes.
The Giants whupped up on the Eagles at home last season, kicking them while they were down in late December, 42-7, and paving the way for Kelly to make his way into Philly. It is one of the rare times the Giants have beaten the Eagles though, as the Eagles hold an 8-2 SU record in the last 10 head-to-head meetings and a 7-2-1 ATS record to boot including a 5-0 SU and ATS record prior to last years blowout.
Badger’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: The Giants finally put it together and win convincingly.
