New England Patriots at Arizona Cardinals, 12/15/24
When: Sunday, December 15th at 4:25 EST
Where: State Farm Stadium (Glendale, AZ)
TV: CBS

Point spread: ARI -6.0
Over/under: 45.5

The New England Patriots will head West to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, this Sunday afternoon. These two teams have not had the strongest campaigns in 2024, but much of that was expected coming into the new season. The Patriot’s playoff hopes have already been eliminated here in week 15, but the Cardinals have an outside shot to gain a berth as a Wild Card team. There is a lot on the line here in this late season matchup for the Cardinals so I would expect them to come out with an increased level of energy at home. The Patriots have been playing much better and have kept their recent games close, but have not been able to notch many in the win column. Can the Patriots play spoilers and essentially eliminate the Cardinal’s playoff hopes? Or will the Cardinals handle a weaker AFC opponent and keep the life they currently have? Read below to find out who I am choosing this Sunday!

New England Patriots

Not much has gone right for the Patriots this season, but if there is one major positive, it is that they have found their signal caller of the future in rookie quarterback Drake Maye. This problem for Maye is that a weak offensive line and lack of playmakers around him have caused a lot of the burden to fall on his shoulders. Maye, on the season, has throw for 1698 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Like many rookies, he has struggled with turnovers, but he clearly gives New England the best chance to win.

Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals still have an outside shot to make this season much more successful than it has been so far. At 6-7 on the year, they find themselves 3rd in the crowded NFC West, but just two games out of a wild card spot. Similarly to New England, they enter this matchup on a three-game losing streak and hope that a return to their home field can offer some course correction.

Betting Pick

Over 45.5 (-110)

This game could easily be a great spot to take the Cardinals -6.0, but they have not shown the consistency that I would need to see in order to take them as a touchdown favorite. Factor in the fact that New England has nothing to lose and will really use the last few weeks to assess their team for the future, and I will once again stay away from the point spread. This Over is a sneaky play, even though neither offense has been fantastic this year. The Cardinals will give New England every opportunity to sustain drives and put points on the board, and I don’t think the Patriots can contain the offensive playmakers of the Cardinals. 45.5 seems too low for this one.
