The New York Giants head to the west coast to take on the San Francisco 49ers in a battle of 2 teams with a combined record of 1-16. If this is the game on your local network and you dont have DirecTVs Sunday Ticket I suggest taking the wife out for an early dinner or do some early Christmas shopping. The Giants have huge aspirations heading into the season and were the pick of several prognosticators to represent the NFC in the Super Bowls but they have fallen on hard times and landed head coach Bob McAdoo on the hot seat. On the other sideline you have the winless San Francisco 49ers. The Niners started the season with 6 close games where they fell just short; however, the last 3 games have they have been blown out scoring only 10 points in each game.
Giants QB Eli Manning has struggled and have heard cries from the fans for a change but it has certainly not been all his fault. The Giants have struggled to find a quality RB the past few years to help Manning out and the line play has been poor at best. The WRs have been plagued with numerous dropped balls and then they lost their best WR when Odell Beckham was lost for the season with a broken leg. Despite all of that, the offense has not been the biggest problem for the Giants. The defense is giving up almost 26 points per game and they have given up over 300 yards passing per game in their last 4 losses.
The Niners have been in a tailspin for the past several years but they are hoping that their trade for QB Jimmy Garropolo from the New England Patriots will get them on track in the future. They traded for Garropolo at the trade deadline on October 31 but he has not seen action for them yet. It is unclear as to whether they will play him this week but I dont know why they would continue on the course they are after the dreadful performances the past 3 weeks by C.J. Beathard where they scored a total of 30 points in 3 games. Of course the QB isnt the only problem for the 49ers as they lack production from all areas of the skill positions.
Defensively the biggest struggle for both of these teams has been against the pass. The Giants have given up 7.4 yards per pass play and the Niners have given up 7.3 yards per pass play. The question will be as to whether either team can take advantage of the poor passing defense. This is the reason that I expect the Niners to switch to Garropolo at some point in the game despite the announcement that Beathard would start. I also think that Eli will be able to quiet the critics and come up with a decent game considering the downgrade in the defense he is going against.
On the injury front there may be good news for the Giants as several injured players seem to poised to return with DE Vernon and Wynn back at practice and their best offensive lineman Justin Pugh is also expected to play. I think this will help the Giants immensely as the have had trouble getting a pass rush and protecting against the pass rush.
Jerbeeks Pick to Cover the Point Spread: Oftentimes when the matchup features 2 teams that are not very good it turns into and exciting high scoring game. I think that is what happens here and I see the Giants winning by a score of 27-24. My recommendation is to play over the total of 42.5.- Bet this game for FREE by taking advantage of a 50% bonus up to $250 at one of the web’s oldest and most trusted betting sites: BOVADA
