This Monday night, we will witness a great matchup between two of football’s
top teams. We could be seeing a preview of the NFC Title game when the New
Orleans Saints travel to the northwest to battle the 10-1 Seattle
Seahawks. Both teams lead their respective divisions and are battling
not only for their division titles, but are looking to win home field advantage
throughout the NFC playoffs. The Saints last season were abysmal, simply
because they lost their head coach and play caller because of “bounty gate.”
The Seattle Seahawks entered the NFC playoffs as a true Super Bowl contender
but lost a tough heart breaker to the Atlanta Falcons. This season the Saints
are back, and the Seahawks have not only picked up where they left off last
season, but they look even better. The Seahawks are a 5.5 home favorite
and the total points have been set at 47. The 5.5 is a strange line, so
let’s take a moment to break down this great matchup.
The New Orleans Saints are back. After an awful 2012-2013 campaign, they have found themselves in the middle of the NFC title race. This game in Seattle is a huge one for the landscape of the NFC playoffs. A win by Seattle almost certainly solidifies them as the NFC top seed and they will have all their games played in CenturyLink Field…which is considered one of the toughest and loudest places to play in the NFL. New Orleans lives and dies by the performances of Drew Brees and the offense. So far this season, Brees has thrown for over 3,600 yards and 28 touchdowns. The Saints are ranked 3rd in all the league in passing but not only do they pass the ball well, they defend the pass well too. The Saints pass rush has caused enough problems this season to make their DB’s lives easier. New Orleans is only giving up only 198 yards a game in the air and this has been their recipe for success. To go into Seattle and get a win, the offensive game plan will need to be on point. The noise and weather will play a factor and the offense will need to run smoothly in order to counteract the homefield advantage of the Seahawks the best they can. The Saints have the ability to go into Seattle and steal this win, I am just not sure they will.

Seattle this season has looked really good. What is amazing is that the media is too busy talking about Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and the Dallas Cowboys, that they are overlooking the 10-1 Seattle Seahawks. This team is straight nasty. Their only loss of the season came on the road in Indianapolis, but other than that, they have been laying the wood to teams. They have a 33-10 win in Atlanta, a 41-20 win over Minnesota, and 29-3 dominant performance over the San Francisco 49ers (another NFC contender). The Seahawks have a good offense but in my opinion it is their defense that has them being so great. They are ranked 3rd against the pass and their run defense isn’t too bad either ranked right in the middle of the NFL. I love this team at home, but that 5.5 point spread is a little scary. In order to cover this 5.5, Seattle will need a huge game not only offensively, but defensively. New Orleans has an up tempo offense but if Seattle can slow them down, this game could go the way the Seahawks faithful hopes.
Bob’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: It amazes me that a game between two such talented teams is set at 5.5 points. Most games of this caliber usually have the home team set at 3 or in same cases just a straight up pickem. So, why are the Seahawks so heavily favored over a team that may not have the same record, but is just as talented and has just as much to play for? I see that most people are jumping all over the Saints in this one. And by looking at it on the surface, the 5.5 looks good. I smell trap. There is something we don’t know about this game, and I am not going to fall victim to it. I am going with the home fave here. I like Seattle to win this game by a touchdown. Take the Seahawks -5.5 and go ahead and lay a wager on the over 47 as well!
