The Seattle Seahawks got their first road win of the season at Carolina on Sunday but it wasnt exactly a highlight reel of explosive offensive play. Granted, the Hawks did a lot of good things offensively but the score indicates they struggledthey did at times but they stayed the course. Russell Wilson out played his counterpart Cam Newton and snuck away with a 16-12 victory for the Hawks. In a game that ended up being basically a pick, both teams had trouble finding the endzone. For Seattle it was a much needed confidence boost heading back to the Emerald City for this weeks contest against the high-powered New England Patriots.

Seattles defense will be a major factor in this weeks game with the Pats as the Hawks D has been solid all season and they get stronger with every game. Seattle defenders sacked Cam Newton four times and held the Panthers offense to a total of 190 yards. Cam Newton was held to a season low 12 of 29 for just 141 yards. Seattles Wilson still struggled with 2 INTs but he completed 76 percent of his passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. The Hawks D will have their work for them this week when future Hall of Famer Tom Brady comes to CenturyLink Field. We all know what Brady can do if hes not constantly under pressure and even then he gets the ball out well.

Offensively, Seattle must find balance between run and gun. They appear to be heading in the right direction as Wilson distributed the ball to eight different receivers against the Panthers while Marshawn Lynch gained 85 yards on 21 carries. However, Seattle will be challenged by the Pats veteran defense. Seattles receiving crew is plenty capable of breaking open but Wilson will need to get the ball out.

The Patriots are coming off of a significant win against the Denver Broncos 31-21. Although Patriot QB Tom Brady was sacked four times he still put up Tom Brady numbers23 of 31 for 223 yards and a touchdown. Pats WR Wes Welker pulled in 13 catches for 104 yards and a touchdown. RB Stevan Ridley rushed for 151 yards on 28 touches and also had a TD. New England has rushed for 200 or more yards in their last two games which they have not done since 1978. Coupled with Bradys passing attack, the Pats running game is a legitimate threat and will keep Seattles top ranked defense on its toes.

Defensively, both squads can pressure and cover man if they bring a variety of blitz packages, but Seattles D will have the 12thMan advantage at home. This game will be tough for Seattles offense to keep up with Brady and the gang; however, it will be won or lost on the defensive side of the pigskin. The Seahawks lead the series with the Pats 6-4 going back to 1985. The last meeting between these two teams was in 2008 at Seattle where the Pats walked away with a W 24-21. A lot has changed in the past four years especially for the Seahawks, so it will be interesting to see how rookie QB Russell Wilson matchs up with theZeusof NFL QBs in Tom Almighty Brady.

New England is averaging nearly 200 yards more total offense than the Seahawks per game (439.4 to Seattles 287.2) but if Seattles D stays true to their rushing defense which is allowing on average just 66 yards per game, they may force Brady to audible into dangerous passing lanes. Seattle must be almost perfect on every snap offensively and defensively to have a chance in this contestNew England may have the same record (3-2) but they are a whole level above Seattle at the moment due to their QB play and veteran status. The Pats have the matchup edge in every category save for yards allowed and kicking. But I dont always bank on edges.

Wilson’sPick to Cover the Point Spread:Call me crazy, but I really like Seattle this week to upset Brady and the Pats. Seattles D stops the running game and they make some key plays in the secondary to bump the Pats at Century Link Field. I’m betting the Seahawks at +3.5.
