Sunday at 1:00pm we have a game between two AFC teams that are sitting at 1-3 and both are on a three game losing streak. The Miami Dolphins will head into the Music City to take on the Tennessee Titans. The Dolphins came into 2015 with very high expectations. A couple of experts even picked them to win the AFC. Now that was a little ridiculous, but I thought we had a playoff team down in South Beach. Tennessee on the other hand came in with a rookie quarterback and not very high hopes. Both teams are found guilty of teasing their fanbase in week one only to let them down since that time.
The line opens with Tennessee as a three point home favorite. It makes sense, two pretty even teams, same record, blah blah blah. As of Tuesday night, 61% of the bettors have faith that the Titans will take care of their business at home. The total points are set at 43 combined, and it is near 50/50 as far as the action on each side of that line.
The Dolphins are a huge disappointment. A team that many thought were finally on the rise and ready to compete have completely fallen on their face. They started the season out with a win over the Redskins then lost three straight to the Jaguars, Bills, and Jets. Miami has not even had to face the Patriots yet. They have two games against New England, the Giants, the Cowboys, and the Colts left. If Miami does not get things turned around quick, they could be looking at a 4-12 or 5-11 2015. After the loss in London to the Jets, the Miami ownership decided it was time to part ways with head coach, Joe Philbin. Since that time they have also fired their defensive coordinator and named Dan Campbell as the interim head coach. The Dolphins really have no excuse in being as bad as they are. In my opinion it is purely and attitude issue in the locker room. The defense is worth about $25 billion and they are one of the worst in the NFL. They allow nearly 26 points a game and just simply cannot stop the run. Not only that, but earlier I was writing and article on how bad the Lions offense was but I was shocked that there were two worse than themone of those teamsthe Dolphins. Miami is averaging a horrible 16.2 points per game. Even the game they won, they only scored 17. With a running back like Lamar Miller and a QB who many say is on his way to being one of the better in the league, this is not acceptable. This weekend is simple. Miami needs to play with more of a killer attitude. Maybe Dan Campbell can get something out the guys that Philbin couldnt. The talent is there, if this team does not start winning it will be time to stop firing coaches and start releasing players.
The Titans came out of the gate this season on fire. They went into Tampa Bay, which was a battle of the rookie quarterbacks and Mariota won the battle hands down over Winston. Tennessee went home with a 41-14 beatdown of the Bucs and immediately ESPN and the rest of the talking heads pronounced Marcus Mariota the greatest QB of all time and the Titans were a legit contendercalm down guys. It was one game, against a crap team. And we are now seeing this come to fruition. Since that day in Tampa, the Titans have lost to Browns, Colts, and Bills. Not exactly the best of teams in the league. With all that said though, the Titans are ranked fairly high in some areas of the NFL statistics. Tennessee has the 8th best scoring offense, 14th ranked rushing offense, and are giving 22 points a game which is pretty average in the NFL. The key to this weekend against the Dolphins is to get Miami down early. Tennessee needs to score early, go up two scores, and I am pretty sure the fragile attitudes of the Miami players will give uplike always. If they allow Miami to stick around, it could get interesting late.
I will go pure chalk on this game. I will take Tennessee at home. I just think they are playing better football right now and the Dolphins are in complete disarray for the time being. It will not be a blowout, but I can see a 24-19 type win for the Titans in this one.
