As stated a week ago, the Philadelphia Eagles are a threat in the NFC this year and not just the NFC East. After picking up a pair of wins over the Lions and Vikings on the heels of impressive offensive performances, the Eagles defense flexed their muscles last week in a 24-8 victory over the Washington Commanders. While I know the competition has not been stiff to this point in the season, the Eagles are the team to beat in a relatively weak NFC East division and they have the ceiling to be a big threat in the entire NFC if they can continue to play well on both sides of the ball. The undefeated Eagles return home this week for a showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field as 7 point favorites.
The Jaguars are not an elite team by any stretch of the imagination but they also appear to be an organization on the rise. Despite being fairly large underdogs, Jacksonville obliterated the Chargers in a 38-10 finale in week 3. The win follows an impressive 24-0 shutout over the Colts in week 2 and has the Jaguars sitting atop the AFC South. With improved play across the board from QB Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars defense, and the rising threat of WR Zay Jones; Jacksonville also looks like a team that can make some serious noise this year. With so much momentum going for both teams, this week’s showdown between the Jaguars and Eagles definitely has some entertainment value along with a relatively wide betting line with the Eagles laying a full touchdown.
Trust the defenses
After analyzing this match-up from all angles, I feel like a lot of people will fall into the trap of the high potential from both offenses. QB Jalen Hurts had another big day in last week’s win against Washington. Hurts tossed 3 touchdowns and threw for over 300 yards with the bulk of the damage coming in the first-half before the offense moved to a run-heavy approach in the 2nd half. Likewise, the Jaguars are showing a lot of potential on offense as well. I mentioned the improved play of QB Trevor Lawrence but RB James Robinson also deserves a ton of credit after another solid performance that featured 17 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown. Robinson has scored a rushing touchdown in every game this season and has provided the balance needed to keep the passing game effective.
With so much potential for both offenses, I turn to the match-ups in this game which I believe favor the defenses. Despite the strong box scores from Jalen Hurts, he still flashes poor decision-making and has moments where you are left scratching your head. The Jaguars have been outstanding against the run holding teams for an NFL best 55 yards per game on the ground. If the Jaguars can limit the run-game specifically preventing Hurts from extending plays with his feet, I believe they can force Hurts outside of his comfort zone into pure pocket situations. I know there are a lot of “ifs” in that statement but the match-up angles point to a high probability that happens. As a result, I don’t think we are going to see the fireworks that most people expect following both teams coming off big scoring performances.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Philadelphia Eagles Betting Prediction
I”m not convinced either of these teams have shown the consistency to trust picking the side. Instead, I really like the defensive match-ups here. The Eagles have only given up a single score in two straight games while the Jaguars have given up just 10 points over their last two games. I like the under here as the best play for this match-up.
