Fresh off a 20-17 overtime win over the Titans on Sunday night, Kansas City returns home for the 2nd straight week at Arrowhead Stadium for a week ten showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars. At 6-2 SU, the Chiefs maintain a one-game lead in the AFC West over the Los Angeles Chargers and have put together several weeks of high-level performances to indicate the Chiefs are once again among the best teams in the AFC. On Sunday, the Chiefs get a juicy match-up against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have lost five of their last six games.

Last week, the Jaguars snapped a five-game losing streak with a 27-20 victory over the Raiders. Despite giving up huge numbers to WR Davante Adams on the defensive side of the football, which led to a 20-10 halftime deficit, the Jaguars rallied in the 2nd half behind running back Travis Etienne. He posted his 3rd straight game by going over 100 yards with at least one touchdown. Etienne’s emergence in the run game has provided Jacksonville with a reliable weapon on the offensive side of the football to help the growing talent of QB Trevor Lawrence. Perhaps for the first time this season, the Jaguars are playing better on both sides of the football. That is noteworthy, considering the Jags are being offered nearly double digits points against the spread this weekend in Kansas City.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Kansas City Chiefs Betting Analysis

While I do believe the Chiefs are performing at a high level, I do think the team has a lot of ways to improve going forward as well. Until this point in the season, TE Travis Kelce has been the main passing weapon since the departure of WR Tyreek Hill. However, in recent games, we have seen the emergence of WR Juju Smith Schuster and the acquisition of Kadarius Toney from the Giants. As a result, QB Patrick Mahomes has more options, especially over the middle of the field. If Kansas City continues to see those talents develop and perhaps gets some improvement in the running game, the Chiefs’ offense is going to be extremely tough to beat on a weekly basis. The problem right now is simply the offense has not produced the big play threats, nor have they been as consistent as we have seen in previous years.

For this week’s match-up against Jacksonville, I expect the Chiefs to continue to exploit the middle of the field against a rather weak interior defense in the Jaguars. While I don’t expect big plays, I do think Kansas City will be able to move the ball consistently down the field to create scoring opportunities. For Jacksonville, the path to scoring opportunities likely goes through RB Travis Etienee. I have been unimpressed by the play of QB Trevor Lawrence. Once deemed the greatest talent in the last century, Lawrence has tossed 11 touchdowns and six picks on the season while looking like a fairly average quarterback in the process. Instead, this offense flows through the big play ability of Etienne on the ground and out of the backfield. The problem with that fact is that Etienne has not been used frequently as a pass-catching tailback, and the Chiefs are one of the better run defenses in the league yielding just 92 yards per game. Therefore, the Jaguars will have a difficult match-up this week and will likely need a bigger performance from Lawrence to keep pace.
