Sunday at 1:00pm, there is an AFC game between two teams that are not having the seasons they hoped for coming into 2017. The 2-5 Indianapolis Colts will travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals who come in at 2-4 overall. Both teams have shown weakness all season and this game is the perfect chance for one of these two to get back on track while the other should start preparing for the upcoming draft this spring.
The Bengals enter this game as a 10 point favorite at home over the Colts. The total points are set at 41 combined between these two squads. The betting public is torn on this with 51% of the action liking the Colts to keep it close while 49% thinks that the Bengals will get the cover at home. The total points are about the same split with 54% liking the over and 46% taking the under.
Without Andrew Luck the Colts offense is bad. Really bad. Indy is scoring just 17 points per game which is 27th in the NFL and the defense is ranked dead last giving up almost 32 per game. This is a recipe for disaster in the NFL having the worst defense with a bad offense…wins are not easy to come by. Where does Indy go from here? How do they improve this? If this trend continues, this team will be lucky to find four or five wins all season long especially with the emergence of Houston and Jacksonville.
Luckily for the Indianapolis Colts, they will not be facing a a good offense. The Bengals enter this game averaging just 16 points a game and ranked in the bottom three of the league’s worst offenses. However, from a defensive standpoint, the Bengals are pretty solid as they have been over the last few seasons. Cincinnati ranks 6th in the NFL in scoring defense only allowing slightly over 18 points per game and this bodes well when facing a Colts team with Jacoby Brissett at the helm. The Bengals should get the defense off the field and give Andy Dalton and the offense plenty of time to improve their offensive numbers this week.
The keys for these teams this week is to find a way to control the ball. Both teams are below average on offense and keeping the other offense off the field is key. For the Colts, they need to get a run game going in order to make things easier on Brissett and let him run the offense without having to make big plays with his arm. For the Bengals, it is time they got the offense rolling. AJ Green needs to be more involved and Andy Dalton will need to pass for more than the 200 yards a game he is averaging thus far in 2017.
This game is going to be boring…trust me. I think it will be sloppy, low scoring, and just…like I said, boring. I think the Cincinnati Bengals will win at home, but the ten points is way too many to give up. Neither of these teams have the right to be called a ten point favorite and therefore I like the Colts to keep this one close when it is all said and done.
