Over/Under: 51
After winning exactly nine games each of the last four seasons, the Tennessee Titans shoot to top that total when they go for their 10th victory of this season Sunday afternoon against Detroit in Nashville. Tennessee is also closing in on a second straight playoff appearance, while the Lions are basically out of the running as far as making the playoffs goes. Detroit will also probably play this game without its starting quarterback. Add it all up, and this game involves a double-digit point spread. What’s the play here for our free NFL pick?
NFL Betting Odds
Week 15 NFL betting odds opened Tennessee at -8.5 over Detroit, with an over/under of 51.5. Early betting action then tripped the Titans up to -10.5 and dipped that total to 51.
Lions Betting Preview
Detroit just followed up its come-from-behind victory over Chicago two weeks ago with a 31-24 loss at home to Green Bay last week. The Lions led the Packers early 7-0 and played Green Bay to a 14-14 tie into halftime. But Detroit gave up the first 14 points of the second half to fall down by two scores and couldn’t recover.
However, the Lions kicked a field goal with just under two minutes to go to cover the spread as nine-point underdogs.
Detroit got out-gained by the Packers 410-293, out-rushed 120-51, and lost time of possession by a 36:24 split. So the Lions have now been out-gained and out-rushed six times in their last eight games.
Two weeks ago, Detroit trailed the Bears 30-20 late but scored twice in the last two-plus minutes to steal a 34-30 victory. But prior to that, the Lions looked bad in losing back-to-back games to Carolina and Houston.
At 5-8 overall, Detroit sits on the edge of postseason elimination.
On the injury front, Lions QB Matt Stafford is listed as questionable for Sunday with sore ribs, so it looks like back-up Chase Daniel will pilot Detroit.

Titans Betting Preview
Meanwhile, Tennessee just bounced back from that bad loss to Cleveland two weeks ago to beat Jacksonville last week 31-10. The Titans drove their first possession of the game 57 yards in three plays to a touchdown and led 17-3 at the half. Tennessee then scored touchdowns on its first two possessions of the second half to pull away for the win and the easy money at -7.5.
The Titans out-gained the Jaguars 454-354 and most of the yardage the Tennessee defense gave up came in prevent mode. The Titans also out-rushed Jacksonville 249-91, as Derrick Henry popped off for 215 and two touchdowns.
So Tennessee has now out-gained three of its last four opponents and out-rushed six of its previous seven foes.
Two weeks ago, the Titans fell down to the Browns 38-7 in the first half before rallying to make the final score a more respectable 41-35. But just before that, Tennessee looked good in back-to-back victories over Indianapolis and Baltimore.
At 9-4 overall, the Titans are tied for the lead in the AFC South with the Colts, and Tennessee owns the tie-breaker on Indianapolis based on the better divisional record. If the playoff started today, the Titans would host Cleveland for a rematch in an AFC wild-card game.
Common Opponents
These two teams have played five common opponents this season; the Titans are 6-1 SU, 4-3 ATS against the Bears, Jaguars, Vikings, Colts, and Texans, while the Lions are 2-4 both SU and ATS vs. those five foes.
When They Last Met
These two teams met most recently four seasons ago, a 16-15 Tennessee win at Ford Field. But that’s already a long time ago for both these teams.

Free NFL Pick
Tennessee is chasing a postseason berth, while Detroit is playing out the string. The Titans are also out-rushing opponents by 44 yards per game this season, while the Lions are getting out-rushed by 43 yards per game. And while Tennessee’s defense can be iffy, Detroit’s is even worse. Finally, the Lions probably won’t have Stafford, the King of Meaningless Yards and Points, to pull any back-door crap. We’ll take the Titans, minus the points. Hey! Are you still laying -110 odds on your bets?
