Sunday afternoon we will see a huge NFC game that could ultimately play into the conference playoff picture come January. The 1-0 Dallas Cowboys will travel east to take on the Philadelphia Eagles who sit at 0-1 after a tough road loss to the Atlanta Falcons this past Monday night. This game is always entertaining and I do not see any difference this year.
The line sits with the Philadelphia Eagles as a 4.5 home favorite over the Cowboys. Much of this is in part of the injury to Dez Bryant, but I also it has a lot to do with the fact that the Eagles are desperate for a win. An 0-2 start in the NFC East usually does not bode well, especially if that second loss pushes the Cowboys to 2-0 and the leader of the division with wins already over the Eagles and Giants. At this time, 60% of the action is on the Eagles to cover at home, while another 58% are taking over the posted total, which sits at 55 points combined. Both teams fell short of covering their spread last week, Dallas however, was still able to win outright over the Giants.
The Philadelphia Eagles had a lot of hype around their offense. Chip Kellys scheme, the acquisition of DeMarco Murray, Sam Bradford healthy, Darren Sproles, a group of talented receiversthe list goes on and on and on. All I heard last week as that they were going to put up at least 38 on Atlanta and beat the dirty birds by double figures in the Georgia Dome. Well, here is the final game stat line for you: DeMarco Murray: 8 carries for 9 yards. Ryan Mathews: 3 carries for 4 yards. Sam Bradford did however throw for 336 yards and a touchdown, but most of those yards were after the Falcons were already up 3 scores. Lets also not forget the two picks Bradford tossed, one which was more Jordan Matthews fault, but however, it happened. Okay, so now what? That game is over. The Eagles offense showed signs of their hype in the second half against Atlanta. Maybe they just dug themselves too much of a hole too early, it happens. Well now they are hosting their division rival and they cannot repeat that this week. One bad half this week and I promise the Cowboys will put them away much worse than Atlanta did. In order for the Eagles to win and cover versus Dallas they just need to play their game. Give Dallas a large dose of DeMarco Murray..more than 8 carries. Also, Sam Bradford is going to need to shake the early game jitters. He looked like a deer in the headlights for the first five or so possessions against the Falcons. He needs to come out with confidence and make good throws. This will help the running attack as well.
Dallas will be without Dez Bryant for 4-6 weeks but I still believe this offense can have success. They have one of the top offensive lines in the league and they will look for players like Lance Dunbar, Jason Witten, and Joseph Randle. Point is, they still have weapons and they still have Tony Romo who is a solid quarterback, despite what many critics may say. The key in this contest will just be to play some good solid defense. The Cowboys cannot let the Eagles get out running and speed this game up. The Cowboys will also need to stop DeMarco Murray just like Atlanta did. Not only from a win or loss standpoint, but I am sure this is personal. Dallas wants to shut down their former running back and make sure Randle outplays him, you know, just to send a message. This will be a great game and this match-up is never predictable. I like both teams chances.
I have seen this before. An overhyped team all offseason, and overhyped team that never really did anything in the past but for some reason the media falls in love with them. Well the 2015 version of that team is the Philadelphia Eagles. The guys have talent yes, but in professional, sports it takes more than talent and the Eagles just dont have IT, at least not yet. I like Dallas to come in without Dez Bryant and still put up points on the Eagles defense. Dallas pulls the upset and wins this game 30-26.
