The Dallas Cowboys pulled off one of the most remarkable comeback victories in recent memory in Week 2 to score the first victory of the Mike McCarthy era. Trailing by as much as 19 points in the 1st half, the Cowboys trailed by 15 points with less than 5 minutes to play. Dallas rallied with two touchdown drives, including a three and out from the defense, and then recovered the most unlikely onsides-kick to set up a 46 yard Greg Zuerlein field goal to steal the victory. The Cowboys will have the opportunity to build on last week’s 4th quarter heroics when they travel to CenturyLink Field to battle the Seattle Seahawks in week 3.
The Seahawks withstood a late rally from the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football to stay undefeated. The Seattle defense came away with a goal-line stand against QB Cam Newton to thwart the Patriots’ come from behind efforts. With two games in the books, Seattle has performed exceptionally well behind the play of QB Russell Wilson, and they will be 4.5 point favorites against the visiting Cowboys on Sunday. The Seahawks have covered the spread in each of the last three meetings against the Cowboys, and they should have an excellent opportunity to keep that streak alive this weekend.

Russell Wilson is looking like an NFL MVP
There were rumors coming out of Seattle throughout the offseason that Russell Wilson would be released in this year’s Seahawks offense. Typically Seattle has yielded a heavy rushing centric philosophy under Pete Carroll. In recent years, Wilson has been mostly under duress with a subpar offensive line. However, the offensive line has improved, and the Seahawks have some dynamic weapons on the outside in receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. As a result, Seattle has held true towards unleashing Wilson. The star quarterback has posted MVP caliber numbers through the first two games completing 82.5% passing for 610 yards with nine touchdowns and just one pick.
Wilson is also 2nd on the team in rushing with eight attempts for 68 yards, which is just 25 yards shy of RB Chris Carson’s total on the season. Simply put, the Seahawks offense is performing at a high-level, and this week’s match-up against the Cowboys is another opportunistic pairing. The Cowboys biggest weakness on the defensive side of the football lies in the secondary, and if the Seahawks can stand strong against the Dallas pass rush, Wilson will have another opportunity to have a big afternoon!
Evaluating the Cowboys chances against Seattle
From a talent standpoint, the Cowboys have the personnel to go into Seattle and get a victory. The offense is loaded behind QB Dak Prescott, RB Ezekiel Elliott, and a trio of playmaking receivers in Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb. The Seahawks defense was exposed against the Patriots as they failed to get pressure on Cam Newton and rarely had any answers for Newton’s running ability. Both of those struggles could benefit Dak Prescott, who has the capability to frustrate this Seahawks defense in similar ways.
The problem for Dallas is that they need to play a complete game without mistakes, which is something they have not come close to accomplishing. In last week’s win over Atlanta, the Cowboys looked horrific at times, coughing up four fumbles (three lost). The special teams attempted two different failed fake punts at inopportune times. All of this happened against one of the NFL’s worst defenses and let’s not forget; the Cowboys’ dynamic offense posted just 17 points in the loss to the Rams in week 1. If anything along that trend line happens again this week, the Seahawks will pull away with ease.
Jay’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: Dallas has the potential, but I don’t trust their consistency. Seattle has an edge in match-ups, and I believe they will take advantage. Take Seattle -4.5.
