Last week, the Dallas Cowboys’ two-game winning streak and slightest chance of salvaging a playoff bid ended in a 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Worse than the loss itself is the way the loss occurred. With two minutes to go, the Cowboys defense came away with another big stop and forced Cincinnati into a punting situation which would have allowed the offense a probable chance at victory. The Cowboys’ special teams blocked the punt, but CB Amani Oruwariye muffed an unnecessary recovery attempt, which gave the ball back to the Bengals. Three plays later, Joe Burrow connected with Ja’Marr Chase for the game-winning touchdown pass.

The ending of the Cowboys game represented a microcosm of their 2024 campaign, which has been filled with hard-fought games that have been overshadowed by mistakes and injuries. LB DeMarvion Overshown went down with a season-ending knee injury in the 2nd half of last week’s loss, which was the latest in a long list of injuries on the Dallas roster. Despite those facts, the Cowboys have still shown great effort in recent weeks and are perhaps still playing for the job of Head Coach Mike McCarthy. On Sunday, the Cowboys will take their circus on the road when they meet the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium for a week 15 showdown.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Carolina Panthers Betting Analysis

Despite the combined 8-18 record between the Cowboys and Panthers, both teams have shown a lot of fight in recent weeks. The Carolina Panthers are 2-3 SU in the last five games, but those three losses were at the hands of the Chiefs, Bucs, and Eagles. More importantly, the Panthers had legitimate chances to win the outright game in all 3 of those recent losses which sheds light into the fact they are playing much better than their record indicates. In my opinion, the reason that things are going much better for the Panthers surrounds the fact they have run the ball much better and QB Bryce Young is continuing to improve. RB Chubba Hubbard is the Panthers’ best path to victory this Saturday against a declining Cowboys’ rush defense.

However, the Cowboys have also run the ball extremely well in recent weeks despite the loss of QB Dak Prescott. Backup QB Cooper Rush has been relatively mediocre at best, but RB Rico Dowdle has come on strong in recent weeks with back-to-back 100+ yard performances. This week Dowdle and the Cowboys rushing attack will get another great opportunity against a Panthers’ rush defense that has given up an atrocious 170 yards per game on the ground as the worst run-stop unit in the league. If Dallas can get another big effort on the ground, it will minimize the impacts of their struggles behind center and perhaps give them another opportunity at victory.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Carolina Panthers Betting Prediction

I honestly believe both offenses will find success in this match-up, which will create scoring opportunities consistently on both sides. From a match-up perspective, this game has an underrated chance of going much higher than the 43.5-point total.
