The Panthers knew they were playing for the future coming into this season but the Titans thought they were contending for the playoffs. Turns out they’re both going to miss the postseason, heading into Sunday’s inter-conference match-up in Nashville.
Carolina’s a work in progress with a new HC and a rookie starting quarterback, and the results are not unexpected. Now Tennessee’s working with a rookie QB, too, and the results are similar.

NFL Betting Odds
The Week 12 NFL betting market opened Tennessee as a four-point favorite for Sunday, with an over/under of right around 37. Both those figures were holding steady in the early betting action.
Panthers-Titans Betting Preview
Carolina totes a three-game losing skid into Sunday after falling at home to Dallas last Sunday 33-10. The Panthers, catching 11 points, actually only trailed 17-10 through three quarters but let the game get away from there.
Carolina held the high-powered Cowboys to only 311 yards of total offense. However, the Panthers only produced 187 yards of offense themselves, threw a pick-6, allowed seven sacks and committed 90 yards worth of penalties.
Two games ago Carolina never hit the end zone offensively and lost to Chicago 16-13. Three games ago the Panthers scored one offensive TD and lost to Indianapolis 27-13.
The Carolina defense is doing it’s job over recent weeks; it’s just not getting any help.
At 1-9 overall the Panthers own the worst record in the NFL. Unfortunately, they don’t own their first-round pick in next year’s draft.

The Titans got out-gained by the Jaguars 389-235 and lost both the turnover battle 2-0 and TOP 36:24. In fact, Tennessee only ran 38 offensive plays all day.
Two games ago the Titans only managed 209 total yards against an iffy Tampa Bay defense and lost 20-6. Three games ago they managed one offensive touchdown and lost at Pittsburgh 20-16.
At 3-7 overall, Tennessee would need a miracle to make the playoffs this season.
The Titans are also now 1-3 both SU and ATS, with rookie Will Levis as the starter at QB, averaging 16 PPG.
These teams last met four seasons ago, a 30-20 Carolina victory. Kyle Allen quarterbacked the Panthers that day against Ryan Tannehill for Tennessee.
Common Opponents
These two teams have played three common opponents so far this season; the Saints, Colts, and Falcons. Tennessee played those foes to 1-2 SU, 2-1 ATS, and -38 yards per game, Carolina to 0-3 SU, 0-2-1 ATS, but +12 YPG.
Totals Report
- The Under is 7-3 in Panthers games this season, which are averaging 44 total points.
- The Under is also 7-3 in Titans games, which are averaging 38 points.
- The Under is 98-66 (60 percent) in the NFL this season.

Both these teams own three-game losing skids but Carolina’s actually been playing the more competitive ball the last couple weeks. The Panthers also own the better defense and the better performance, yardage-wise, against common opponents. Meanwhile Tennessee shouldn’t be favored by four points over anyone right now. We’ll take Carolina plus the points.
