Two teams striving to stay alive in their respective conference playoff pictures meet when the Dolphins host the Panthers Sunday afternoon in South Florida. Miami was 1-7 on the season, but a three-game winning streak has it at 4-7. Carolina was 3-0, but it’s now 5-6.

The Panthers got out-gained by Washington 369-297, out-rushed 190-111, and lost time of possession by a 36:24 split.

So Carolina has now been out-gained six times over its last eight games and out-rushed by five of its last eight opponents. It’s also 2-6 both SU and ATS over that span.

At 5-6 overall, the Panthers trail first-place Tampa Bay by 2.5 games in the NFC South race, but they’re also only a half-game back of New Orleans in the battle for the seventh and last NFC playoff spot.

Miami, meanwhile, surfs a three-game winning streak into Sunday after beating the Jets on the road last week 24-17. The Dolphins drove the opening possession of the game 83 to a touchdown but only took a 7-7 tie into halftime and a 14-14 tie into the fourth quarter. Miami then scored the next 10 points of the game and hung on for the victory and the cover as a 3.5-point road favorite.

The Dolphins out-gained New York 388-380, out-rushed the Jets 115-102, and won the time of possession by a 34:26 split.

Miami has now out-gained four of its last six opponents, but it’s also only out-rushed two of its previous ten foes.

At 4-7 overall, the Dolphins trail first-place New England by three games in the AFC East race, and they’re 2.5 games back of Buffalo in the battle for the seventh AFC playoff spot.

These two teams last met four seasons ago, a 45-21 Carolina victory. Cam Newton quarterbacked the Panthers that day against Jay Cutler for Miami.
