Week 7 is a critical point in the season for both the New York Jets (1-5) and Baltimore Ravens (3-3). The Ravens will travel to the raucous MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey to square off with AFC foe New York Jets coming by way of the East. The Jets enter off an embarrassing 28-3 drudging on Monday night at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals. The Ravens also enter on a losing note, falling to 3-3 after they were defeated by the team that splits the rent with the Jets, the New York Giants, last Sunday.
The Ravens have seemingly shown their true colors after getting off to a 3-0 start. The Ravens offense continues to look lackluster and their best player on offense is 60 Minutes Mike Wallace who has not looked anything close to what we saw of him in his Pittsburgh days. Season-to-date, the most of amount of points this team could muster up is 25 points against Cleveland and Clevelands defense is extraordinarily porous. As we have highlighted previously, Baltimore could easily be an 0-6 football team had they not taken advantage of a few fortuitous happenings along the way. The Birds caught Jacksonville on an off week and opened with Buffalo who did not find the offensive rhythm we have seen the Bills exude as of late. Even with the likes of Justin Forsett in the fold, the Ravens offense is marginalized and their defense cannot hold serve like we are accustomed to seeing with the Baltimore defenses of the past.
The Jets have all kinds of problems. The New York Jets defense is the not the Gang Green we have seen in years past and their offense is horribly out of sync despite having weapons like Brandon Marshall at their disposal. The Jets have also had some terrible injuries to their personnel, including Eric Decker and Matt Forte and this undoubtedly has hampered their output and put immense pressure on the Jets defense. Nevertheless, there has been inconsistency at the quarterback position and the controversy surround Todd Bowles and Ryan Fitzpatrick has been a driving force behind the Jets unsavory results during this campaign so far.
We are simply going to approach this one yet again from the perspective of home field advantage as we did when the Giants played host a week ago. However, we have more intangibles in our favor. The Jets stock has already crashed through the cellar and they are perhaps the black sheep of all the NFL after Monday Nights affair. What works in our favor is the fact that the entire country and betting community bore witness to this and thus an overreaction against the Jets is the likely situation taking shape here. The Jets lost to three consecutive playoff qualifying teams in consecutive weeks, Pittsburgh, Seattle and Arizona that is a tough stretch for any team to tackle. Needless to say the four game skid reveals what level the Jets are playing at but Baltimore still has never had their act together to begin with. Once again the Birds are forced to take on the daunting task of traveling to MetLife Stadium, where they have already fallen this season just a week ago. No matter where we attack this angle from the Jets are being spotted more points whether they are a pooch or a favorite. Both teams enter on a losing streak so it is hard to make determinations but at the end of the day we have to look at who these varying teams lost to and where the contest is being played and when those considerations are made, the Jets offer more value for sure. In Over/Under markets, this game will likely be best played on the Under given the turbulence in both teams offensive units. With respect for this we will not call for the play on the Under but only lean on it in this scenario. If the Jets hope to salvage any bit of their season, this is their chance to get back on track. Gang Green needs a win desperately and this motivation will propel them in this fixture.
