Their games have had an average over/under line of 8 runs, and they have played in 84 games with lines set lower than 11 runs. Today’s over/under line is set at 11 runs, and the Brewers have yet to play in a game with a line set that high this season.
Rockies Records & Recent Play
The Rockies are coming off a game in which they were the +183 underdog but picked up a 5-4 win over the White Sox in Chicago. This game went 13 innings, and Colorado scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 13th to pick up the win. The Rockies also had a two-run 2nd inning but didn’t score again until the 13th.
Colorado started Jalen Beeks, and he got the win out of the bullpen, going three innings. The Rockies also used Kyle Freeland out of the bullpen, and he picked up the save. Starter Elias Diaz was good for the Rockies, going 6 2/3 innings and giving up just two runs on seven hits. He only had three strikeouts in the outing and got the win.
With a record of 28-55, the Rockies are 5th in the NL West, and they trail the Dodgers by 23 games in the division. So far, they have gone just 10-17 in divisional matchups. Colorado will host the Brewers today with an overall record of 28-55, and they are 12-31 on the road this season.
As the underdog, the Rockies have yet to win a game when favored this season. They have also really struggled in series lately, as their overall series record is 4-21-2, and they have lost six straight series. In their most recent series, the Rockies lost two games to the White Sox.
When the Rockies win, they win big, with an average run margin of 3.0 runs per victory. However, when they lose, they lose by an average of 4.1 runs per game. Their run line record is 39-44 overall, including a 19-21 mark at home and 20-23 on the road. They have covered the run line in two straight games at home, but have yet to be favored in any game this season.
The Rockies are playing at home today against the Brewers, and the Over/Under line for the game is set at 11 runs. Colorado’s games have averaged 10.1 runs per game this season, and their Over/Under record is 43-38. When the O/U line has been set at 11 runs, their record is 6-4-1. So far this season, 77.1% of their games have had lower O/U lines than 11 runs, and the Over has hit in their last two games.
Pitching Matchup
Bryse Wilson is looking to build off his last outing, where he didn’t allow a run and picked up the win out of the bullpen. In that outing vs. the Rangers, he went 6 innings and gave up just three hits. Looking back further, Wilson has made two straight scoreless appearances. Out of his 19 appearances, he has made two quality starts and is averaging 7.18 strikeouts per nine innings. Wilson’s ERA for the season is 3.89, along with a record of 5-3. For the year, he has allowed 12 homers and is averaging 3.16 walks per nine innings.
Through 15 starts, Austin Gomber has a record of 1-5 and an ERA of 4.63 for the Rockies. He has made five quality starts this year and is coming off a rough outing against the Astros, where he gave up five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of work. In that game, he gave up four homers. Gomber has a home ERA of 3.53 compared to 6.95 on the road. Looking back at his last three starts, he has given up at least four earned runs in each outing. The left-hander has a WHIP of 1.31 this season.
Brewers vs. Rockies Offense Outlook
William Contreras has been a big surprise for the Brewers this season, as he is batting .291 with nine home runs, which is 3rd on the team. He has also driven in 50 runs, which is 2nd on the team and 13th in the league. Willy Adames and Rhys Hoskins are the top two power threats in the Brewers lineup, but both are hitting just .229 this season.
As a team, the Brewers are 7th in the league in scoring at 4.8 runs per game. They have been even better at home, averaging 5.2 runs per contest. Milwaukee comes into the game with the league’s top batting average on balls in play and are 3rd in both walks and on-base percentage.
So far this season, the Rockies offense has been a bit below average, averaging 4.2 runs per game (18th). They have been a better offense at home, averaging 4.8 runs per game, which is 8th in the league. As a team, they are batting .243, which is 12th in the league, and have the 2nd-best BABIP in the league. One area they will need to improve is their strikeout numbers, as they are currently 27th in the league in strikeouts.
Over his last nine games, Ezequiel Tovar has gone 11/35 (.314) with one home run. For the season, he is batting .284 with 12 homers. Ryan McMahon is the team’s top power threat, as he is 12th in the league with 14 homers and is batting .270. McMahon also leads the team with 42 RBIs. Michael Toglia has struggled of late, going just 6/33 in his last nine games.
Free Brewers vs. Rockies MLB Pick
Even though the Brewers just took two of three from the Cubs and have a sizable lead in the NL Central, there are some holes in this team. Their offense has benefited from a few big innings, but they are also prone to significant scoring droughts. The Brewers have also been employing the strategy of having an opener for Bryse Wilson, and he has at times pitched well for them, but I see the Rockies getting to the Brewers tonight. I like Colorado to pull off the upset and take game one of this series. My pick is Colorado on the money line.
