Preakness Stakes G1, Race 12, Pimlico Race Course
Date: Saturday, May 15, 2010 Distance: 1 3/16-miles Purse: $1 Million Approximate Post Time: 6:15 p.m.
Only 12 horses will go to post on Saturday for the 135th running of the $1 million Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Racecourse, but the field includes Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver and Derby favorite Lookin At Lucky in what should be an excellent rematch.
Lookin at Lucky finished sixth in the Kentucky Derby under jockey Garret Gomez after getting bumped hard early, while Super Saver had a dream trip in the Derby under jockey Calvin Borel. Lookin At Lucky will get a rider switch to Martin Garcia for the Preakness and also drew a better post than the horrid one hole he had at Churchill Downs for the Derby.
Lookin At Lucky will break from post seven for the Preakness, just inside of Preakness morning-line favorite Super Saver in post eight. Kentucky Derby third-place finisher Paddy O’Prado drew post 10 for the Preakness, while Jackson Bend, twelfth in the Derby, drew post 6. Dublin, seventh in the Derby, drew post 12 for the Preakness. The connections of Derby runner-up Ice Box decided to skip the Preakness and instead point to the Belmont Stakes on June 5, but the Preakness field has a competitive look to it on paper.

Derby Trial runner-up Aikenite drew post 1 for the Preakness. Tampa Bay Derby runner-up Schoolyard Dreams drew post 2. Florida Derby runner-up Pleasant Prince will break from post 3. Northern Giant, second in the Lane’s End, will break from post 5, while Yawanna Twist, second in both the Gotham Stakes and the Illinois Derby, will set sail from post 5. R B Lewis winner Caracortado arrives fresh and ready from California to take the ninth slot in the gate for the Preakness. Blue Grass third-place finisher First Dude rounds out the field and will break from post 11.
It will be interesting to see if Lookin At Lucky can rebound back to top form after a series of disappointing races that were mainly the result of troubled trips. If he does, Super Saver should have some serious competition on his hooves as he tries to take the second jewel of the 2010 Triple Crown.
