ANY GIVEN SATURDAY had a troubled trip in the Kentucky
Derby and then came back to rattle off three wins in a row including a pounding
win over fellow Classic entrants CURLIN and HARD
SPUN at Monmouth in the Haskell-G1. He’s in great form, loves the
track and has beaten likely second choice CURLIN before. What more do you
need?
We’ve always liked HARD SPUN but he’ll likely be under
pressure her from favorite LAWYER RON. If one of those
two gets loose they could go all the way. Otherwise they compromise each
other’s chances. CURLIN is a very good horse who can wear down his opposition
in a long stretch – but he doesn’t have a long stretch to work with and
that works against him.
Kentucky Derby winner STREET SENSE likes the distance
and he could get a perfect rail trip with Borel aboard but we’re not quite
sure he measures up to the best these boys have to offer and at a short
price we’ll be looking elsewhere. That’s not to say we won’t use him on
some saver tickets.
TIAGO looked good winning his last but that was only his
second start off a long layoff and, he’s never won at the distance and we’re
not sure he can run as fast as these.
