Bodog finds new home at BodogLife.com
Posted 19 September 2007 @ 11:44 by news
After a slightly bizarre month that saw Bodog lose their original domain names due to a default judgment entered against them by a US court, the company has settled on what appears to be their new, permanent home - BodogLife.com.
Bodog made a remarkably rapid recovery from the loss of its core domain, with very little traffic drop off and a quick resurgence in the search engines, countering the predictions of several analysts who estimated massive losses for the gaming and entertainment company.
While it would have seemed odd to say it a couple of weeks ago, this whole saga might actually be a net gain for Bodog, given all of the publicity and sympathy (in some corners) generated by the story.
Owner Calvin Ayre commented on the switch in his blog:
bodoglife.com is our new permanent domain. bodoglife.com is not registered in the U.S. and is not subject to being claimed by a U.S.-based method patent dispute (that we don’t think even applies to a system that is outside the U.S. even if the patent is applicable to our proprietary multimedia distribution). In this move the Patent Trolls over at 1st Technology have been defeated.
While it’s assumed that the legal fight over the domain name Bodog.com will continue on some level, it seems as if Bodog has resolved to accept that, for the foreseeable future, the domain will not be available.
The temporary domain Bodog established immediately after the loss of bodog.com - newbodog.com - is now redirecting visitors to bodoglife.com.
