JoePa's Women's British Open, WGC Invitational, Russian Open

Due to vacation it feels as if I've been away from golf for a while and don't know what's going on.....when I got back this weekend I chose to watch the entire 136th Open Championship instead of the Canadian Open or the Evian Masters! Thank God for TIVO!!!

RICOH WOMEN'S BRITISH OPEN On the Old Course at St. Andrews for the first time ever!

Winner on the last two LPGA events I posted...will post the odds when I get them!

AI MIYAZATO 40 / 1 - Finished 9th in 2006 and 11th in 2005. This little firecracker is 9th on the LPGA money list this season with 2 Top 10s in her last 5 starts, her best being a 2nd to Lorena at the Wegman's and a 10th in the US Open. Last week she was T22nd in the Evian Masters. she's 29th on tour in driving accuracy and we all know how important that stat will be this week on the Old Course. For the season she has 6 Top 10s in 15 events which is 9th on tour.

LORENA OCHOA 5 / 1 - What can't she do? She's first in Rounds Under Par this season 40/56, 1st in Birdies with 229, 1st in Eagles with 11, 1st in GIR at 75.4%, 3rd in putting at 1.77, 5th in driving at 271 yards per shot, and in 16 tourneys this season has 13 Top 10s and 3 Winners. In her last 5 tournaments she has a T6th in the McDonalds, Won the Wegmans, T2 in the US Open, T17th in the HSBC Match Play, and T3 at the Evian Masters. Oh, and she's 1st on the LPGA money list this year. She's finished T4th in her last two British Opens, and this looks to be her year! Never you mind that she's T66th in driving accuracy.....What's not to like?!

JEONG JANG 20 / 1 - Lost last week in the Evian Masters in a playoff at the Evian Masters and has been a "lurker" all season long. As an example in her last 5 events she T5th in the Wegmans, T8th in the US Open, T21 in the Owens Corning where Se Ri Pak ran away from everybody, T9th at the HSBC, and finished 2nd last week after failing to convert on the first playoff hole. Jang is 27th in driving accuracy on the tour at 72.8%, 21st in putting, won the British Open in 2005 and T22nd last year. She's 11th on the money list and has 5 Top 10s in 17 events which places her 14th. She's just a step behind Lorena in scoring average 69.96/70.80 and playing her best golf of her career right now!

    WGC INVITATIONAL

TIGER WOODS - 3 / 1 - This is Tiger's Tournament....he loves the South Course at Firestone Country Club and it's always good to be "home" for what ails ya! Last year he won in a 4-hole playoff over Stewart Cink, and has won the tournament 2 times in a row and 5 of the last 8 times! He has played at Firestone 8 times and has 8 top 10s with his "worst" finishes T4th in 2003 and finished alone in 4th in 2002. He finished 2nd in 2004, and won the Firestone in 2006, 2005, 2001 (in a 7-hole playoff over Jim Furyk), 2000 and 1999! Woods holds the all time lowest scoring record of 259 at Firestone and this year the course has been lengthened to 7455 yards at par 70! In 24 WGC Championship events Woods has 13 wins, 22 Top 10s, and has led in 14 of 32 rounds he's played at Firestone for a combined 72 under par!

    WITHDRAWN
JIM FURYK - 10 / 1 - I've been quoting his stats all season long and the one week I'm out of town and can't get any money on him he finally comes thru and wins the Canadian Open last week. He's for real, and has 4 Top 5s in his last 5 events and a T12th at the British Open. In 8 WGC Championships Furyk has 6 Top 10s....he finished 3rd last year by 1 stroke that could have thrust him into a 3-way playoff with Tiger and Cink, T6th in 2003 and 2002, was 2nd in 2001, T4th in 2000 and T10th in 1999.

LUKE DONALD 33 / 1 - Donald has finished in the Top 10 the last two starts of his 3 total starts at Firestone CC....finishing 8th last year and 6th in 2005. I think he's a good buy and great sub for Furyk. His stats are solid and he has finished well this season. Not the longest hitter but still a scorer with a solid GIR average and he's pretty good with the flat stick as well.

DAVID TOMS - 40 / 1 - In 6 WGC Championships, Toms has 3 Top 10 finishes and they have come in his last three starts in Akron. He's 8th on the PGA tour in scoring average at 69.60, 20th in the FedEx Cup standings, 68% in GIR, has 1 3rd place finish, 7 top 10s, and 10 Top 25s on the year, and has a 66% accuracy rating on his driving...a must on this lengthened course.

An extra play since the Top 50 in the world are here and a "minor" tournament on the European agenda....

PAUL CASEY - 66 / 1 - T4th last year in Akron with a -7. Casey loves playing in the U.S. and has 4 Top 10s in 6 events when playing on American soil this season. He has 5th in WGC Accenture Match Play, T9th at the WGC Championships in CA, was T10th in the Masters, and T10th at the US Open. His other finishes were 31st at the Memorial and T14th in the Arnold Palmer. He's ranked 12th on the European Order of Merit, T27th in the British Open at +2, averages 291 yards off the tee (great for this longer course), is 65% in driving accuracy, hits GIR with 73.81% accuracy, and is 54% in sand saves.

RUSSIAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - All the big cats are away at the WGC or have the week off.....

ZANE SCOTLAND - 20 / 1 - Has had good results in the only two events he's played on the European Tour this season.....T11th last week at the Deutsche Bank Invitation in Hamburg, faltering in the final round with a 76 to fall out of contention finishing at -11 when the winner carded a -19. He's usually a Challenge Tour player where's he's ranked 38th! Very good with the putter!
