JoePa's TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP Picks
What a week and what a finish at the U.S. Open! Very happy for Jordan Spieth who will convert the grand slam before Phil Mickelson does. Tough week for my picks with just two making the cut. Now it's onto the Traveler's which is the second shortest course on the PGA Tour. That ought to make everybody happy this week and guys will be in attack mode!
BRANDT SNEDEKER 14/1 TO WIN OUTRIGHT - Sneds has posted Top 10s in his last 3 Tour starts including a great finish last week at Chambers Bay! He seems to be peeking at the right moment and trending upward toward a win. He shot a 78 at The Players, but since then has scored in the 60s in 9 of 12 rounds.
SERGIO GARCIA 4/1 TOP 5 FINISH - He T2nd here last year! He also has not won on the PGA Tour since August of 2012 at the Wyndham Classic! Finished T18th last week at the U.S. Open and was striking the ball really well, but he had Darryn Johnsonitis missing putts that would have scored him a Top 10! Also has a T2nd at TPC Sawgrass, ranks 6th in adjusted scoring and T40th in GIR!
LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN 9/2 TOP 5 FINISH - Great recent form with 5 Top 10 finishes on Tour which includes last week's T2nd at the U.S. Open. Although he doesn't have experience at TPC River Highlands, he now ranks 16th in the OWGR and will be fearless after last weeks tester.
TONY FINAU 7/1 TOP 5 FINISH & 4/1 TOP 10 FINISH - The best golfer many have never heard of, but he turned pro in 2007......and has 5 consecutive Top 20s which includes last week at Chambers Bay! Has carded 4 Top10s with a T7th at the Shriners Classic, T7th Mayakoba Classic. Over his last five starts he's been very impressive with a T8th at the AT&T, 14th at the Memorial, T16th at the Wells Fargo, T19th Crowne Plaza and finished 14th at Chambers Bay! Bubba showed that big hitters can win at TPC Highlands and Finau fits that bill ranking 3rd in driving distance. Currently ranked 50th in GIR, 32nd in adjusted scoring, 33rd in strokes gained tee-to-green and 18th in birdies or better.
BRENDAN STEELE 7/2 TOP 10 FINISH - He's a horse for the course and has a great track record here with Top 15s in 3 of his 4 appearances at TPC River Highlands. He T5th last year after opening with a round of 62! His best finish this season so far has been a T2nd at the Humana Challenge, has a T8th at the Valero and a T9th at Quail Hollow last month. Sits 32nd in GIR, 12th in driving distance, 24th in strokes gained putting and 19th in ball striking.
