JoePa's FEDEX ST. JUDE Picks
Thank you Hideki Matsuyama for the Top 5 finish last week! Nearly had a double with Kevin Kisner and Kevin Na who were right in the thick of things to the end. Now it's onto the FedEx St. Jude Classic this week. TPC Southwind ranks as the second hardest non-major in Tour events through the last three years. The course had undulating greens and narrow target lines from tee to green which makes ball striking and putting vital components this week.
BILLY HORSCHEL 14/1 TO WIN OUTRIGHT - Can this be his time? He seems to be peaking at the right moment coming off a T17th at the WGC Cadillac Match Play, T13th at The Players and a T11th at The Memorial in his last three Tour starts. Another plus is that he was 10th at TPC Southwind in 2013 and T6th in 2014. He also has a 3rd place finish at The Valero Texas Open this season. He currently ranks 15th in GIR, 8th in total driving, 7th in ball striking and in his last two starts is an aggregate -19 to par.
RYAN PALMER 14/1 TO WIN OUTRIGHT - What can be said about Palmer that hasn't been said already? He has two Top 5s at TPC Southwind in the last three years and comes off a T10th in Dallas at the Byron Nelson where he put together four sub 69 rounds. Ranks 9th in total strokes gained, 13th in driving distance, 13th in strokes gained tee-to-green, 5th in scoring average, 13th all around and 1st in scrambling from the fringe.
WEBB SIMPSON 7/2 TOP 5 FINISH - Simpson T3rd in here in 2014 and T2nd at Quail Hollow in his last Tour start. Also has a T10th at the Crowne Plaza this season. In his last two events, his GIR percentage has been 81% and 75%. He ranks 4th in strokes gained tee-to-green and 3rd all around. He's a 16/1 shot to win outright.
GEORGE MCNEILL 8/1 TOP 5 FINISH - This season he has career-bests in his last two events which led him to T5th at the Crowne Plaza and T13th at The Memorial. Also has Top 20s in five of his last seven events which includes T12th at the Zurich Classic, T17th at The Players and his finishes at Quail Hollow and Muirfield. He's a 40/1 shot to win outright.
BRIAN HARMAN 12/1 TOP 5 FINISH - Top 10 finishes at TPC Sawgrass and Colonial this season! He's a lefty and those courses are very receptive to "opposite" hitters as is TPC Southwind. Finished T6th in 2014 and currently ranks 21st in sand saves! He's a 66/1 shot to win outright.
