JOEPA'S UPDATED YTD
UNITS: +22.50
The warmup before the U.S. Open and there are a number of recent Open qualifiers in the field so momentum could propel them thru this weekend. Here is the kind of finish that destroys your weekend.....check out Jonathan Byrd's consecutive bogeys on 17 & 18 at The Memorial that killed a Top 5 finish which would have put me in the money once again.....
Jonathan Byrd Scorecards - PGATOUR.com
ST. JUDE PICKS -
ZACH JOHNSON 11/1 TO WIN OUTRIGHT - His odds are only 5/2 for a Top 5 finish, but since he's probably the hottest golfer in the field I will go with him to win! He currently sits 4th in the FedEx Cup Standings with a victory at the Crowne Plaza and runnerup finishes at the RBC Heritage and The Players all in 3 of his last 4 tour starts. He is 3rd in bogey avoidance, 6th in scoring, 7th in strokes gained putting, 8th in eagles, 15th in driving accuracy and 22nd in birdies. His recent form would out-trump his course form but he does have 2 Top 15 finishes in 3 appearances at TPC Southwind.
DAVID TOMS 6/1 E.W. - Hear that quiet rumbling in the background? Why it's David Toms the quiet storm on Tour who had 2 Top 10s this season---6th at the Humana Challenge and a T10th at The Players---and 5 Top 25s. It also seems he like Memphis and not just for the B&B, barbecue and blues, because he's the all-time money leader at the St. Jude Classic with wins in 2003 & 2004 and 7 Top 10s in 20 events. Like his course form here and while making 9/12 tour cuts this season he is ranked 2nd in driving accuracy, 17th in sand saves, 22nd in GIR and 30th in eagles.
RYAN PALMER 7/1 E.W. - Going with another player based on his recent form! He has 3 Top 10s in his last 4 tour starts with a T4th at the Zurich Classic, T9th at the HP Byron Nelson and T5th at the Crowne Plaza, and also has 5 Top 25s on the season. This Aggie is also ranked 9th in driving distance, 10th in strokes gained putting, 16th in scoring, 29th in birdie average and even more impressive is the fact that he has shot par or better in 8 of his last 9 rounds!
TIM HERRON 29/1 E.W. - He qualified for the U.S. Open just Monday so he may have an extra boost of confidence this week without all the pressure. Even though this just isn't a typical Tim Herron season he does have 2 Top 25s and is ranked 39th in GIR. In 14 starts at TPC Southwind he has 11 Top 25s with a 3rd place finish just last year. In that finish he ranked T11th in GIR and T5th in putting and closed the final round with a bogey-free 65. Ah, fond memories sprinkled with a little confidence may be just what the doctor order for his ailing game.
