JOHN DEERE CLASSIC -
Nice tidy little run last week with Watney as the winner and Simpson finishing in the Top 10. Let's see what happens this week at the TPC Deere Run where the birdies will be plentiful.
JASON DAY 11/1 to win outright - Day has been in great form this season with 5 Top 10 finishes in his last 6 starts - those being a 2nd in the U.S. Open, T2nd at The Masters, 5th at the Byron Nelson, T6th at The Players and a T9th at The Heritage. He also has a T9th at the Hyundai and WGC Accenture, and a T2nd at the Sony Open. His course form at the Deere has also improved over the last couple of seasons with 15th place finishes in both 2010 and 2009 in his four starts here. He's 11/13 on cuts made this season, has 7 Top 10s and 8 Top 25s and ranks 15th in the FedEx Cup Standings. He's scary long off the tee but needs to keep it in the short stuff as he is ranked 142nd in tour in fairways at 57%. However, he boasts an 8th all-around ranking, is 1st in sand save percentage, 22nd in strokes gained putting, 21st in driving distance, is 11th tour scoring average and 13th in birdie average on tour.
JONATHAN BYRD 25/1 to win outright - Byrd has 7 starts at TPC Deere Run and has made every cut with a win in 2007 T2nd in 2003, and 24 of his 28 rounds here have been par or better. His aggregate score at the Deere is -70 for all his rounds. Now that's great course form. He missed the cut at the U.S. Open but his season form is still in ship-shape making 10 of 15 cuts this year with 4 Top 10s or 6 Top 25s, and is ranked 14th in the FedEx Cup standings. Along with nice finishes in the Hyundai where he finished 1st after a playoff, and playoff 2nd place finish at the Wells Fargo, T7th at The Memorial, T10th at the WGC Cadillac, T20th at the Transitions, and a T25th in the FedEx St. June, Byrd ranks 25th in GIR on tour, 24th in birdie average, and 34th in scoring.
CHRIS STROUD 60/1 to win outright & 11/1 to finish in the Top 10 - Stroud has great recent form with a T6th at the AT&T last week and a T17th at The Travelers in his previous start----with all 8 rounds under par. The finish at AT&T was his 2nd Top 10 on the year as he finished 4th at the Mayakoba Classic. He also has a T12th at The Players. His last start at TPC Deere Run in 2009 produced a T15th a vast improvement over his 41st place finish in 2008 and his 27th place finish in 2007.
