This should be a good one, as usual the no names will hit the leader board early and often. This is the round you can take that huge underdog. One way or another they always shoot a 67 or right around in there. Martin Laird has been playing exceptionally well, however, this course is going to eat him up. Only one person has come to a first time trip to the Masters and won, Fuzzy Zoeller. With Colin Montgomerie in decline, Scotland did not have a single player in the game’s top 100 at the start of last year. Now Laird is at a career-high 21st, Stephen Gallacher is 74th and Lawrie – still the last British winner of The Open – has climbed from 272nd to 150th with his win at the Andalucian Open in Malaga. The last Scot to win, Sandy Lyle (who is agin in the field) in 1988. Laird's odds have to be a long one for me to even put a unit down. The head-to-head though is a little different.
One of the Euro's I do like this week and I'll have a play overall is Kaymer. He'll be the featured group along with Westwood and Kuchar. Any one of these boys are a strong contender on my card. In three attempts Kaymer has never made the cut. However he says a change in his preparation has set him up to cruise into contention. Kaymer says he's only ever missed the cut by a couple of shots so he's been working hard on his short game and shouldn't have a problem this year. Kaymer has broken par just once in six Masters rounds.
So my favorite to win the whole thing straight up? Hunter Mahan. The guy has been nails since that missed putt in the Ryder Cup. His presence will be known and seen this week on the course. Out of the 9 tourneys he's played he has made the cut all 9 times, finished in the top 10 five times and has his score down to an average of 70 shots a round and did I say he's 8th in total birdies this year?? Only problem for Mahan I see this year is his 3rd round, he ranks 131st with an average score of almost 72. I'll definitely have a play on him and of course Mickelson.
Don't forget about my Villegas plays. He satrts early on tomorrow and Augusta will tear him a new one.
These are to win:
Mahan +2500 ................1 unit.
Mickelson +500..............1 unit.
B. Watson +2500............1 unit.
Immelman +5000...........1 unit.
Top Aussie:
Ogilvy +250..................1 unit.
First round plays:
DJ +105 over Watney.............1 unit.
Laird -140 over Van Pelt..........2 units.
Kaymer +100 over Westwood.........1 unit.
McDowell +135 over Tiger.........1 unit.
Marino +100 over Kim...............1 unit.
Bubba -105 over Casey.............1 unit.
Unfortunate, no line on Villegas:(
I'll either be dancing or crying, should be fun to watch either way, GL on your plays!:beerbang::thumbs:
