Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry died Thursday, one day after suffering injures in a fall from the back of a pickup truck, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told the Associated Press. He was 26.
The report said police described Wednesday's incident as a domestic dispute with fiancée Loeleni Tonga than began at their home about eight miles from downtwon Charlotte. Henry apparently jumped into the bed of the truck as his fiancee was driving away from the residence, leaving tire tracks on the front lawn, the report said. Henry came out ot the back of the vehicle about a half mile down the road, according to the report.
A talented but troublesome player with a checkered history on run-ins with the law, Henry was on injured reserve with a broken forearm suffered Nov. 8. He left three children that he and Tonga were raising, the report said.
The Bengals (9-4) visit San Diego on Sunday and are 6.5-point underdogs. The official statement has been made by the Bengals yet on Henry's death.
