    Cincinnati Bengals Total Wins

I live in Cincy and have endured the bad years...and the bad years...and the Carson Palmer injury...and the bad years....I have paid attention to the preseason in Georgetown, KY this year....I have watched the pre season games....I have made the following bet and feel pretty comfortable about it....

    Cincinnati Bengals U 7.5 wins -- -135 -- 20 units

Yep, this is my largest wager on this site and pretty much I've ever made. If I lose this, well, late January will not be a good time in my household. Either way, I've made my decision. I don't see the Bengals winning any more than 6 games this year. And thats if things go well. This team is in absolute shambles. Many say, "well, Chad and TJ haven't played...and neither has Rudy." Well, IMHO, it doesn't matter. I'm a big Carson fan...and I think he's a great leader...but honestly, I think he's pretty much given up on this year. It doesn't matter how great Chad and TJ are...if you don't have a running game and and you're offensive line is swiss cheese and doesn't give your talented QB 3 seconds to get a pass off...it doesn't really matter. The Bengals D is suspect at best...their offensive line is atrocious. Carson has been getting killed the entire preseason...he left the game last night with blood gushing from his nose...down his mouth onto his chin. He sincerely had a look like..."WTF?" After the signing of Chris Henry, it showed that Marvin no longer has control of this team. Mike Brown is again making the personnel decisions. Well, look no further than than the 90's and early 2000's. This is going to be a brutal season for the Bengals. Look at this schedule and tell me where they are going to find 8 wins....

I honestly think I would have taken UNDER on 6.5 wins..let alone 7.5. I think this is an absolute gift. Its going to be a LONG fall for Bengals' fans. I honestly think they will be lucky to find 5 wins with this schedule. A less than adequate defense...an offensive line that can't stop anyone (NO and Det)...its going to be BAD, BAD, BAD.

I honestly don't think, as a Bengals homer, I'm underestimating this team. They simply suck.

I'll root for them every game...either way...I don't see them going .500 this year...not even close.

Nigel- i actually found them at 8 and bet the Under as well a while back. I have seen them anywhere from 8 to 7. Alan Cutler is ready to toss in the towel already....

They are going to suck a major dick this year. They are AT BEST a 9-7 type team and i think the odds of them going more like 4-12 or 5-11 are probably a lot better. My honest opinion is they finish 5-11 or 6-10.

What a joke. Starvin Marvin Lewis and his 27th or worse ranked defense every year. They are just like the Reds. They have a complete MORON for a coach who has no leadership skills and is just a flipping idiot. I honestly think Marvin Lewis and Dusty Baker are the same person. Still waiting to see them in public together. Add to that a bumbling idiot of an owner and a bunch of thugs for players and who wouldn't think they could win 12 games this year....:puke:

I just wonder how much longer Palmer will want to play there. He's about the only classy/decent thing in that whole organization.

I seriously Nigel don't see how the Bengals can have a winning record this year. They still can't run the ball for openers and apparently can't stop it either. What's even sadder is that apparently they have sold out their season seats this year and have a waiting list for next year. I mean how freeking bored are people in Cincinnati...:dunno:...talk about pissing away a Sunday

X football is undefeated since 1973 though Nigel....:beerbang:

Here is a vote from the third western ohioan.

They SUCK. Special Teams are pathetic. OL is questionable. RB is doubtful. WR is full of criminals/guys who don't want to be there. the coach's hands are tied (see the Henry debacle).

I would stick with 5 or 6 wins at most. Everyone is talking about how bad baltimore will be....Cinci will give thema run for their money.

I figure 3-5 at home and 2-6 on the road.

yea I'm with Udog. I don't think they will be as bad as you guys are making them out to be. They can easily beat the ravens in the first game. I also see them beating houston on the road. Possibly beating NYJ on the road too as well as Washington. Now even if they take 2 of those games I mentioned they won't get to 8, but they will probably win one game that none of us are picking them to, but I really didn't think under 7.5 was too easy of a pick. One rule I try to use is to not bet on your favorite team so we'll see. Let alone that many units, but to each his own.

Daws and UD, I certainly can understand and appreciate your opinions...but have either of you seen the Bengals play this year? Sure, its the preseason, but if you practice like you play, then the Bengals are terrible. They are sloppy...they have more pre-snap penalties than any team I've ever seen. The offensive line can't block....Carson Palmer is not a mobile QB....that is not a good combo. He has been getting DRILLED in the pre-season and left Saturday night's game with blood gushing from his nose. Because the O line is so bad, the running game and passing game can't get anything going. The defense is suspect at best and the special teams are atrocious.

If the offensive line can't block now, why should I think they will be able to block throughout the regular season?

Maybe I am underestimating the Bengals....but based on everything I've seen for the past 25 years, something unprecedented would have to happen in Bengal land for things to turn around. I'm not sure people can totally appreciate just how much this franchise is in shambles right now. If they turn it around and can go .500 or better, then that would be wonderful....but I'm certainly not betting on it happening.

                oh really................

hey Nigel- wow is all i can say after week 1. They were destroyed. O-line was brutal again. Folks, they ARE as bad as we are making them out to be. Not sure where the wins are going to come from this year. Pretty sad when you give up 250 on the freeking ground in the NFL (i mean what, was Baltimore running the wishbone today?) and can only muster 150 yourself. They are toast. They can't block the point of attack and that's been obvious since the preseason and even last year. If you can't run the ball and you can't stop the run, you have no chance in the NFL. Nevermind not being able to let your QB stand in the pocket for more than 1 second. Why is any other week going to be any different than this one? Chad Johnson is going to get pissed about week 3 and quit trying because they can't get him the ball...and the list will go on and on and on. I think this might be one of the worst bengals teams in a long time. At least when they lost with Esiason they would lose games 44-41 and they were entertaining. This is just a travesty.

that game should have been 31-3.

hey Nigel- think they're going to go 8-4 and ruin our total wins bet....

as i've said before, there isn't a worse city for sports than cincinnati, ohio. bengals season fades into reds season which fades back into bengals season which fades to reds season...year..........after year...............after year...........

there is no worse combo of teams anywhere in the US than the reds and bengals. too bad too because cincinnati has a good fan base that turns out especially to watch this crap on sundays.

Man, that hits sooooo close to home....you've obviously spent time in southwestern Ohio. The fade to fade thing is so true....and I couldn't agree more with the fan base comment. The Bengals sell that damn place out every weekend. Even in the late 90's and early 00's, when the games were at Riverfront...55,000 + every Sunday. Attendance at Red's games isn't good during the week...but during the weekend, they get a pretty solid crowd...and when is the last time the Reds were in the playoffs?

Not being a homer....UC football is pretty good...but the most consistent program in the city belongs to little ol' X....and their coverage is horrible. The rags stick with those pro teams....the loyalty is staggering....for constant losers.

On the brighter side....think my book will pay me after Week 8? LOL!

Any takers on what the line will possibly be this weekend? Talk about an ass whipping of epic proportions....Cincy going into Dallas to face one pissed off Dallas team after a tough loss to an interdivision rival. Oh, the humanity....

Honestly, if Palmer is out, do they even put a line on this game? Even with Palmer back, he won't be near 100%....its likely to get ugly anyway.

The question for most Bengal fans at this point...do you even waste 3 hours on a weekend to watch them? There are only going to be a handful of nice autumn weekend days left before it gets too cold. Its a sad statement, but I can't count the number of times I sat in my living room Sunday thinking...."man, its really nice outside...maybe I should go do some yardwork...do something productive.....anything..." In the end, I sat there and watched that entire debacle and really regret doing so.

                        Life as a Bengal fan.....:bang:

Dallas should be favored by at least 3 TD's if Palmer is out, lol

Well, if I've got to witness the suckfest that is the Bengals, I may as well make a little cash doing so....

While I was pretty sure the Bengals would be terrible this year, I honestly didn't think I might be able to win my bet before the month of November....wow...just....wow.

Question: Anybody here think there is any chance that my book pays this as soon as the Bengals lose their 8th game? I sincerely doubt it....which kind of sucks...but it means I will have some extra cash available for the playoffs.

October 26, 2008 around 7:30 p.m. there is a very good chance I could hit this season total bet.....talk about bittersweet.

                            Bengals football.....:puke:

Oh, and while I am generally not a superstitious guy, I do believe the Bengals are snakebitten. They get the most talented player in franchise history and within 5 years, the guy's leg was ripped in half and now he could have serious issues with his throwing arm. Two things for sure.....1) Carson Palmer should not play another down this year and get his throwing arm healed...there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to risk playing him this year; 2) Carson Palmer, unfortunately, has been BENGALIZED. It make me sick to my stomach....some may laugh, but I think the guy had Hall of Fame talent and potential....I hope, for his sake, he can somehow get the hell out of Cincy before his entire career is ruined.
