    Welcome :beer2:

BTW, you should joined up early tonight and chime in the Dallas/Buffalo game. It gets intense in there. A lot of us OG's in there joke around a lot, so don't take stuff personally.

You really don't need books to learn how gamble in sports. Just trust your instincts. If not, do what I do. Follow these NFL Guru's on this board. Great cappers here willing to help.

I'm not really good at NFL, but NBA is where I make my grind at. So you can catch me there throughout the season, playoffs, and championships there.

If you need help on the abbreviation, don't be afraid to ask. BTW (By the way), enjoy your stay at Predictem...

if, you can figure out which side the books are taking a stand on, in the long-run you will increase your chances of coming out a winner

-a unit is how much you chose to regularly bet:
One guy may usually play $50 per game so 1 unit =$50.00 for him. Another guy may play $100 per game so his unit is $100. One guy bets with mononpoly money so his units are $1,000.00 (lol). So if you bet $100 on a game and your units are $50, then it would be a 2 unit bet. We use this system to make sure everyone is on the same playing field.

-Handicapping is a method by which people attempt to determine the outcome of a game (prediction), hence a person who does it is a handicapper or capper

                  -Parlay are listed as:
                  3 team parlay: Tenn -7, GB+7, Chi-9 1 unit to win 3.3 units

Just scan as many different threads as you can....and take your time...don't jump in the deep water if you're not ready to swim. Also, never, ever, ever, ever bet more money than you can afford to lose. Try to have fun with it.

Fade = picking opposite sides of someone. If someone is struggling, you'll often see them say "fade away" that means, I can't pick a winner so the opposite of my pick should win.

Books = your bookie or online bookmaker...the guy who takes all your money.

                    GL....and again, take your time...baby steps...baby steps.

"the books" are the places where you're placing the bet..."fade" basically means to bet against whatever he is betting..."a unit" is someones base bet, say you usually place $25 on your bets so for you $25=1unit $50=2units etc. ...don't worry, it took me a little while to get all the jargon down, but eventually you'll get it. just listen to these guys on here and you'll learn a lot.

Fade means to play the opposite of what the guy has posted. Say in Buffalo vs. Dallas, Shamrock had Dallas-10, you would play Buffalo+10 and fade him.

Books are Bookies whether REAL (your local bookie) or WEBBASED (you can see a whole list of sportsbooks at this site) they are people who take bets and charge a fee ("vig", usually $0.90 for every $10 bet....Bet $10 to win on Buffalo +10 and you win $9.90)

Fade means to play opposite of whatever someone else is playing, because he normally sucks and loses.

So if the guy I want to "fade" is on

                            Baltimore -9.5
                            Cleveland -4.5
                            Tennessee +3

                            I would play

                            St Louis +9.5
                            Miami +4.5
                            Tampa Bay -3

"The books" means the sportsbooks if you bet online, or bookies if you use a local bookie.

A "unit" is different for everyone. It's how much you bet per game. For some it might be $10, and for some $100, or in between, such as $25, or even more or less.

                            The reasons for units:

                            1. Because we don't post records here using money amounts. The main reason for that is because it's easy to exaggerate money amounts (pretending to bet $1000 per game) and make yourself look cool....which causes distractions we don't need.

                            2. It's not necessary to disclose how much you bet per game, and most people don't care to.

                            3. Units are a standard measuring stick so everyone has a level playing field here when keeping track of their record, for comparison purposes of those who follow/fade the picks posted here.

                            Hope this helps
