Would this basketball strategy work?

Would it make sense to bet the over on every NBA or college game? I figure that you would win about half of the games, plus just about all of the games that go to overtime. Also, you could eliminate all the games that pretty much have no chance of going to overtime in the first place (Miami vs. Cleveland).

Would the amount of overtime games won see a decent profit at the end of the basketball season or am I totally missing something?

I dont think overtime happens enough to be a factor, even for the long term.

From the numbers I've seen, if you went with all overs or all unders, you'd get beaten by the vig making it a losing proposition.

The best way to win at basketball betting is to handicap every game and figure out which games you feel that you have the edge on.

The bookies are forced to put out a line on every game. You however, are not forced to bet on every game. Pick your spots and hit'em when you feel that the value is on your side.

As another rule of thumb, good teams win, bad teams cover.

You would lose if you did this over or under.

OT does not happen near enough to cause it to change your odds. On top of that lines are tilted to over as the public usually bets over and faves.

I had a totals system that I used for the NBA, worked wonders for a season like 3 years ago. Now I still use it, but don't blindly play it. I would venture to say it hits 53% but I didn't track it. I think over a long enough timeline playing any same type of wager is a losing proposition.
