***Thursday Bases, & I Hate the Nats***

2-6 -5 units, & definitely a day that dog bettors will forget.... the Nats game hurt the most. If you watched any of the game, you know why

    Phanatics/gNats o10.5-110

    D-Rays/Oreos o10.5+100

    2 units each

Lannin is making his debut for the Nationals, & has solid numbers in the minor leagues. However, this is a tough offense to make your debut against. Eaton has a 6.23 era in July, & 4 of his last 5 home starts have gone over a total of 10 runs. The Phillies pen isn't much better, & I expect the Nats to put up some runs today, possibly win.

Traschel as a fave? I know Jackson is anb automatic fade for most, but how could you lay chalk with Trash-el? Honestly I probably would have played TB if I got it @+125, but now the value isn't as appealing. He's lost 5 straight starts & in 4 of those games the total has gone over 10 runs. He's only gone over 6 ip in one of those starts & has given up at least 4 er in all 5 games! Laying chalk on a guy with a 6.75 era in July is never a good idea. I'm sure everyone knows about Jackson's woes, so I'll leave that alone. 6 of his last 7 games have combined for over 12 runs. Both sp have allowed 48 walks each for the season, so I expect a ton of baserunners today & hopefully a ton of scoring. TB already lit Traschel up 1 time this year...

Still deciding on a couple more plays....GLTA

          Thanks Low, HD & S&B!

Interestying little angle I see here in Philly. Seems they have a bit of trouble pulling off the sweep at home. Here are all the games which the Phillies had an opportunity to sweep a home series....

          Phillies vs. Washington

          W 6-3
          W 9-3
          L 4-2

          Phillies Vs Cubs

          W 7-2
          W 11-7
          L 4-1

          Phillies vs Brewers

          W 8-6
          W 4-3
          W 6-2
          L 3-2

          Phillies sweep White Sox

          Phillies vs Cardinals

          W 13-3
          W 10-4
          L 10-2

So they are 1-4 on the season when given the chance to sweep at home, with 3 of the 4 losses by more than 1 run. Yup, I'm doin it!

Hmmmmm Pale Hose anyone? I'm sure the public will back the Tigers. Scary backing Stanks, but this is Detroits 12 road game in 14 days. Although Verlander has been getting the W's, he hasn't been stellar lately. He's given up 4 or more er in 3 of the last 4 games, & has a 4.58 era in July. The White Sox have been hitting the ball well... the Tigers are .306 vs lefties this year, but i'm still mulling it over.

Nice comeback for the Nats, of course they had to make it scary in the end, & lose the alt rl... White Sox have bases loaded with no outs & only muster 1 run in the 8th, hopefully they can squeek out the W.

                Astros-119

                Cards-110

                2 units each

                Houston team o4.5-120
                Cubs/Cards o9-115
                Los Doyers-142

                1 to win 4.84

Wells has a 6.25 era on the road, with opposers hitting .349 vs him. He also has a 4.95 era in July, & the Padres are 1-5 last 6 games. The Astros also hit lefties better than righties...

                Lamb .342

                Biggio .319

                Lee .323

I would expect Wandy to get some run support today.

Scary playing against the red hot Cubs, especially with the Cards who can't get anything going. However, I believe this is a spot where they may be able to get a spark- they are 9 out & have the Brewers on deck. Looper is off a horrid outing, but has a 3.83 home era. Last meeting he held the Cubs to 1 run on 5 hits in 7 ip. Marquis has seen his era steadily rise since May, & has a 5.79 era in July.

It's like you read my mind on the HOU and STL games, lol, and I was actually thinking White Sux this afternoon too but chose to pass. I know i've bashed the hell out of those guys lately, but their offense is perking up. Might be time to start backing em a little when the line seems right and the brutal Contreras isn't taking the hill....

Yeah, I was hesitant to play them today, thinking it would be a tight game. Should be a good series vs Toronto coming up, Buehrle/Halladay & Vazquez/Marcum. Both teams are swinging the bats well so i'll be looking at the totals.

Great job so far UD! Yeah...Chicago ver Detroit. Man that Tiger bullpen is ******* awful. How can they not pick up a couple relievers before the deadline. I mean...adding say Gagne & Octavio Dotel (who both seem to be available), they'd have to be the odds on favourite to win it all. If they go into the playoffs they way they are...I don't like their chances when postseason bullpens are so important with all the pressure that comes with it.

GL the rest of the way... :beerbang:

Thanks JML... The pen is definitely the Tiger's achilles heel, & they won't always be able to hit their way out of it. Decided to jump aboard the Haren train- should be a good one :beerbang:

Choo Choo All aboard...Agree with you both about the Tigers..I think they need to make some sort of a move to strengthen up that pen..Zumaya has begun throwing off a mound again so him coming back in prolly mid August will def help and if they can pick up one more quality arm to help the pen then I like their chances in the postseason..
