How to Suck at Baseball: Arroyo, Harang, Dunn and Saarloss

May 13, 2007 - Bullpen Artist Saarlos gives up consecutive 4 singles to permit the Dodgers to tie the game. Then in a flury of excellent pitching he walks in the go ahead runner....Reds lose 5-10

May 15, 2007 - Starting Ace Aaron Harang with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th with his team leading 1-0, falls off the mound resulting in a BALK to bring home the tying run.

May 16, 2007 - Reds Leading 2-0 bottom of the 9th, Greene Singles, Camerson signles. Runners on 1st and 2nd - NO OUTS. Bard hits directly to Arroyo. Arroyo throws to third for a Force out......Throws a slider into the ground. Error. Bases LOADED, no outs.

May 16, 2007 - Next Batter comes to the Plate, hits deep left. Dunn runs over to get the ball and he lets it ROLL BETWEEN HIS LEGS!!!!!!!!!! Runs Score
    to tie it at 2.

May 16, 2007 - Starting Ace Bronson Arroyyo pitches a complete game. Bases loaded bottom of the 9th, tie game....Arroyyo walks the game winning run.

Is there any other team who can lose games like this?

      Joepa,

You have back to back complete game possibilities and you go 1-1. Harang actually tripped because his cleat got stuck in the mound. Good God it is frustrating trying to be a reds fan.

And the truth of the matter is that I have backed the Reds with Harang on the mound and I believe he is 4 - 2 but coulda, shoulda, woulda been at worst 5 - 1!

LOL, I agree with you, but, last night, the game was actually 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th when Arroyo made that lovely throw to 3rd, and then Dunn kinda booted the hit to LF. However, the run would have scored anyway as the man was on second base, and it didn't cost the Reds any further runs. SD only got 1 run in that inning. The 9th inning for Arroyo definitely was rather pathetic, however, it should be pointed out that ball 4 to walk in the winning run was almost definitely a strike....although I'm guessing that even if he had gotten the call and the strike out (it was a 3-2 pitch), SD would have probably managed to score anyway with bases loaded and still only 1 out.

In any case, the one main point I agree with is that Adam Dunn is probably the worst player in the major leagues. Seriously....he can't field, he can't run, he can't hit (except for the occasional HR when he closes his eyes, swings real hard, and is lucky enough to make contact). Honestly, the guy shouldn't even be wearing a major league uniform.

Yet, he will have 500+ HR's possibly by the time his career is over.

What an interesting debate, I wonder who really is the worst player in the major leagues? Although Stiff makes a compelling argument, the fact that Dunn does hit those homers and bats 4th/5th in the lineup immediately excludes him, IMHO. Dunn does suck though, ha (and he kills the Mets which I hate).

I'm thinking Will Nieves maybe? I think he's like 1-50 or something and isn't exactly Pudge Rodriguez behind the plate either.

                  THanks for the input guys.

Dunn is LOVED like you could not imagine in Cincinnati.

You have to grit your teeth anytime a ball is hit to left field.

Stiff, you are correct, and they did win the game with Harang when he fell off the mound....it has been really hard to watch the Reds....but I do it every night.
