    wednesday bases

    (50-20)(+24.90 units) favorite bets
    (19-25)(+0.04 units) underdog bets

    (69-45)(+24.94 units) overall

Well it was just one of those nights. I went 0-2 (-2.60 units) and both picks were favorites. Mets got crushed and the brewers lost on a walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth. Of course I mentioned that I liked Atlanta and Cleveland, but they were both too big of a favorite to take, and they both won. Those are the breaks. I am still very happy with my season so far. I am not going to win every day, or every week. If I were that good I would quit my job and move to Vegas. Unfortunately, in my lifetime I have paid the man more than he has paid me……most of us are that way I am sure.

Phillies -130 vs Milwaukee……….Not sure how popular this play is going to be. Most people may be thinking no way the phillies can win a third in the row againt the popular and top rated brewers. I love Cole Hamels of the phillies. I used to get excited when Steve (Lefty) Carlton used to pitch for the phils, and now I get that way when Cole Hamels take the mound. He has not looked all that great his last couple of starts, but finds ways to win. He is due for one of his dominate, high strikeout games. In 38 innings pitched vs the phils, Suppan has an era just over seven. Phillies starting to put it together and play like they are capable of. They really took off last year and trading players away and giving up on the season. Now with MVP Ryan Howard out, they appear to be stepping up again. Of course it is scary taking the phils to win a third in a row against this team, but sometimes the scaries bets are the strongest bets. I think getting Cole Hamels at home at only -130 is one heck of a deal.

Atlanta -140 vs Washington……………..I don’t have much to go on with this pick. Only a slight pitching advantage for braves, but home field for the nats going for them and they have played a little better at home recently. But this is the braves vs the nationals, do you really need to know much else? I could see if Washington has a big name starter throwing for them, but they have a guy who has not started and will be lucky to last five innings. Nats might score some runs on Davies, but Braves will score more.
I think it is real easy to over think games sometimes. Sometimes it is really simple, like this one. Sounds good on paper, lets hope now it happens.

Dodgers -148 vs St Louis………..Going with former phillie lefty Randy Wolf. I have always been a big fan of his and he has pitched well his last couple of starts. Cards continue to struggle. Hard to believe their offense has been held in check with the talent they have. I am also going against a horrible pitcher in Kip Wells. Wells is 1-7, with an era of 6.51 this year. St Louis is desparate for starting pitching I guess to have him in their rotation. I wish this line was a little lower than -148, but I will take it.

Much like last night, there are big favs I like tonight (went 2-0) last night, but refuse to play them. As much as I like them you only have to lose a few of them and it will destroy any money you have made on them. The odds are really against you taking huge favs. The favs I really liked are…….

    Cleveland with Sabathia
    San Diego with Peavy
    Oakland with Blanton

It is possible to win two of three and still lose money if Oakland would be my loser, or just barely make a profit on one of the others. Just not worth it.

Working my night tonight, so I will not be around tonight. Back on Thursday, but will have to miss all the day games on Thursday. Work sucks sometimes.

Adding one more play that I found. Actually not sure how I missed this one first time around.

Mets -123 vs Cubs……………..Cubs might have the better pitcher throwing overall, but not lately. Sosa is 2-0, 2.77 in two starts for the Mets, while the Cubs have lost 3 of the last 4 starts with Hill on the mound. Cubs have also lost four of their last six games. I think the only reason the line is this low is the Cubbies blew the Mets out last night. One thing we have learned about the Cubs is that they are not consistent at all. Just when you think they are on the verge of being a good ball club, they screw it up. I see tremendous line value with the Mets at home at only -123. I have to try it.
