    7/26

    14-7

    Detroit Tigers -151

We won in a similar spot with Justin Verlander in his last start in Minnesota as he tossed another gem. He remains one of the top pitchers in baseball with a 2.24 ERA and 0.88 WHIP through 22 starts. He has been even better on the road with a 1.98 ERA and 0.81 WHIP in 10 starts. That is a positive as it brings in a much lower price had he be pitching at home. All 10 of his road starts have been quality outings and against the White Sox, he is 7-1 with a 2.44 ERA in his last eight starts going back to 2009.
Chicago counters with Jake Peavy who is coming off a solid outing last time out as he broke a string of five straight non-quality outings. Despite allowing three runs in six innings against the Royals, he was hit with the loss which made it three straight to go along with his 7.16 ERA over that span. Over his last six starts he has a 7.39 ERA with Chicago going just 2-4 in those games. He has faced the Tigers once this season which came last month at home and he allowed six runs in just four innings.

Detroit has the edge on the mound with Verlander. The right-handed flame thrower is 13-5 with an ERA of 2.24 on the season. He’s 6-2 with an ERA of 1.98 at home. The Tigers have won 10 of his last 12 starts, during which he has held the opposition to 1 or no earned runs 9 times. The Tigers have also won 7 of his last 8 starts against the White Sox, and he’s held them to 3 earned runs or fewer in all 7 of those victories.
Peavy gets the ball for Chicago. He’s carrying a 5.56 ERA through 10 starts. He’s 0-3 in his last 3 starts with an ERA of 7.16. He’s also 0-4 in his last 4 starts against the AL Central. He allowed 6 earned runs in 4 innings against Detroit on July 5 in one of those defeats.

The Tigers have won 12 of the last 16 meetings with the White Sox and 7 of the last 9 in Chicago. Take the Tigers.
