Royals call up Billy Butler from Omaha
The Royals are about to see if top prospect Billy Butler can help jump-start their punchless attack.
Butler’s contract was purchased from Class AAA Omaha, and he was expected to be in uniform for tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Angels at Kauffman Stadium.
Butler, 20, is generally viewed as the organization’s top hitting prospect. He was batting .337 in 25 games at Omaha with six homers and 23 RBIs. He also has 18 walks for a .445 on-base percentage.
The Royals cleared space for Butler by placing first baseman Ryan Shealy on the disabled list. Shealy suffered a hamstring injury in Monday’s game while trying to score from second base on a single in the second inning.
