    Friday

Three plays that really jump out at me tonight.

    Arizona pk 2 Units

Arizona has played with more confidence of late and would have even more impressive numbers if they could cash in some of their situations with guys on base. One of the reasons they have struggled with that is their significant amount of K's (Hello Justin Upton). Tonight they run into a struggling SP who doesn't strike out many and depends on contact against a team that hits it hard when they hit it. On the other hand Joe Saunders gets another favorable matchup against young players he can pitch to. He should be able to get them to chase pitches as they are relatively undisciplined and have to be a little discouraged after getting crushed by Florida this week. If Arizona gets ahead early I can see Washington just laying down for them.

    Oakland/Minnesota under 7' 3 Units

Minnesota's home park has played slightly more favorable to unders with the difficulty in hitting HR's and getting instant offense. I would be surprised if more than 1 HR was hit tonight and that means these teams have to string together base hits and get clutch hits against two pitchers who have been very stingy with base runners and allowing hits.

    Texas -125 2 units

Josh Beckett getting rocked part 2. Fastball pitcher against fastball hitting team. I think the day off will help Texas get energized and focused after the tough loss to the Yankees while the Red Sox had to board the plane after Paplebon's meltdown. I don't think this is nearly proper line value for the better starter, better rested bullpen, and a team that is better at the majority of positions in the starting lineup.

Hunter may give up some runs. But I think Beckett will give up more. Plus Boston's bullpen is either tired or ineffective. Hunter shut Boston down a couple of weeks ago in Boston and the heat in Texas should be an issue for Boston. Beckett isn't in very good shape and he will probably won't make it out of the 6th inning. That's a lot of work for a bad bullpen against a very good team. I would also expect Texas to exploit Boston's catcher by either putting pressure on Salty (their ex teammate) and his throwing issues or on VMart and his noodle arm. There are just too many things that favor Texas in this matchup.

If you aren't aware Texas is in a severe heat wave and every day will be over 100 degrees.

I would love to hear your reasoning if it is better than "Hunter will be hunted".

a lot of good points in your analysis, but my reasoning is becket since coming of injury trying to recover his old form and if he get help from ball pen yes he can beat rangers and hunter as an under dog (I agree rangers and hunter are the favorate here )
          good luck

LOL someone using the term noodle arm in reference to someone other than Chad Pennington. I love it.

Win lose or draw, your plays are always very well thought out and have been since whenever it was you started posting here imo. Keep up the fine work

Thanks Stiff...It helps my plays just posting on the site and providing some reasoning since it helps to limit my plays when I realize I don't have any intelligent information to provide on a side or total. My biggest struggle in reigning in the amount of games that I play and this is a big help. Hopefully you'll be back for football season, while we tend to have the same line of thinking in college you crush me in the nfl but atleast I know where to look to get good info.

And everyone else needs to realize whether you are winning or losing throwing some posts up and a little reasoning can help everyone get a little better.

                Friday from The Kid

Franchise I agree with your analysis on the selections tonight.
                As always they make sense.
Do your have an opinion on the Reds - Marlins game.
I have a "gut feeling" about the Reds but the only number
I have that makes any sense is that the Marlins are 36-44 against right handers.
The kid Volquez walks too many & has a horrible walk to strike ratio.
That is the only thing holding me back.

                Arizona -105 1 Unit
                Milwaukee - Colorado Over 9 + 100 1 Unit
                Chicago -150 1 Unit
                Minnesota - Oakland +100 Under 1 Unit

Maybe Cinncinati & Texas still thinking

I think the cincy game is tough to call. I have watched the last couple Florida games and they are swinging the bats well. Florida is a team that starts their lineup with solid disciplined hitters who are willing to work counts and take what is given them. If they can get on Uggla, Ross and Stanton can be very dangerous against Volquez if he struggles to throw strikes. They all sit back and swing hard at fastballs and if they are ahead in the count one swing can do enough damage to back Josh Johnson. Florida is much more vulnerable to a RHP who can throw strikes and will use quality off speed pitches near the zone. I don't know if that is Volquez, although you never know what you get from him. Josh Johnson should have a decent chance to get deep in the game since Cincy doesn't work counts as much as some other teams. If he doesn't go deep they are in the trouble since their bullpen is pretty suspect. But Cincy has seen two quality RHP's this week and Wainwright is very similar to Johnson in terms of stuff so that may help them. IMO, my gut says Cincy but I don't have a huge desire to back or go against Volquez.
